The excitement from the existing playing group is positively tantalising, but tell your friends, tell your enemies and tell the enemies of your friends to sign up!

Might be a few days before I get around to starting this because I'm apartment hunting in a foreign language, but if you want you can request where to play or engage in general banter.

Maybe apartment hunting is easier if you use the right language

    RESULTS FROM NEWPORT QUALIFYING:

    • Word in from our first completed match, as Celtic Provinces' Andrew James has advanced to the main draw, following a straight sets win over New South Welshman Morgan Burridge. Burridge, who is yet to register a singles victory, was complaining of a sore back, but managed to complete the match. His performance wasn't all that impressive, though, and he fell to the consistent hitting of James 4-6, 2-6.

    • Some of these matches have been going a while, but Jordan Logan has just wrapped up a good come-from-behind win over on court two, as he beat Gareth Weaver in three-sets. Logan started slowly as Weaver took the first set 6-3, but the Englishman struck back firmly with a dominant second set, which he took 6-1. The decider was closer, but the Kiwi was broken at the wrong time as Logan moved into the main draw 3-6, 6-1, 6-4.

    • Hey! A win for Aby Dforum! Poor old Nigel Scott, fresh off a doubles title last week, dropped the first set to love, but came back well to take the second a tiebreaker. In that breaker, he saved three match points and sent the match to a third, but let go of his momentum late, as Dforum picked up a victory 6-0, 6-7(7), 7-5.

    • The final match was an ebbing and flowing cracker, as Marquis Deane escaped with a three-set victory over Ether Starris to advance to the main draw. In a match that largely went on service, Deane got the decisive break late in the third to make his first main draw 5-7, 7-5, 6-4.

    RESULTS FROM BOGOTA QUALIFYING:

    • The artificial conditions of the indoor venue in Bogota played right into the hands of Samuel Yates, as his clean hitting caused too many troubles for an unimpressive Oscar Wood. Despite the conditions blowing a gale outside, it was positively still indoors, as Yates racked up the winners in a dominant display. Wood struggled to match the Kiwi's firepower, and it was Yates who advanced with a 6-3, 6-2 win.

    • After making his first main draw last week, Heath Davis was expecting good things as he faced compatriot James Torres in Colombia. Unfortunately for Davis, his fast start was reeled in by Torres who absolutely cruised through the second set to feed the big Kiwi a bagel. With his service falling apart, Davis had to cling to games in the third set, and ensured a messy exit late with two double faults handing Torres' a 4-6, 6-0, 6-4 win.

    • Over on court four, Regan Hutchinson blew a massive chance to move into his first main draw as he surrendered a seemingly insurmountable 4-1 lead in the third set. Lucas Schaw of New Zealand, who struggled throughout the match with a calf niggle, pulled off a heroic comeback in front of a crowd of about four men and five dogs (mainly Dobermanns, naturally) to secure his passage into the main draw 3-6, 6-3, 7-5.

    • In the day's final and longest match, Boshtrich Burger did battle with NSW's Luka Popovic for the final spot in the main draw. In a to-ing and fro-ing battle, both men were forced to dig deep to save break points in competitive first and second sets, with both men trading breaks and, ultimately, sets. After the long service games of the first two sets, Burger was clearly relieved at his ability to hold games to 15 and love in the third set, and was making inroads on Popovic's serving game. The resistence of Popovic finally ended at 2-2, as his next two games were broken, to allow Burger a 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 win.
