Absolutely. I don't doubt that if team subforum posts were taken out, a number of the Crabs would still be at the top of the activity rankings. I think Howe would still be a clear 2nd, but Mariner and Tart would probably be higher up than they are.

Tbph, if it wasn't for the activity that the Crabs have caused in general, I think there wouldn't have been a S5, or at least I would have given up on it by now.

This thread is now the most popular SR thread since the start of S5, btw.

I've been mulling this over more, and I was reminded of one suggestion Eds made a few years back. To reflect past performance more in player ability.

In theory, especially now each player has an SCP/Rating generated, I could rank (for S6) each player in order of average rating. This could be used as an allegory for S5 performance. In theory, I could probably calculate a pseudo-performance rating for S4 (harder as S5 has new stats) and S3 (even harder again). If Eds could somehow trawl through the S1/S2 matches and come up with some listing in a way, then in theory we could map out player performance over the whole life of SR (though it might just be simpler to say the tournament started in S3).

Obviously that 'ranking list' would only be updated once a season. Current season performance is already taken into account via the form calculations in the sim. Potentially, Cribb's rankings that he was working on might remove the need for the calculations I'd need to do if they provide a similar parallel.

I use all my subbies that way. When I was going in for knee surgery last summer, I posted a lot about it in the Warriors SoccerSim forum because Blunder had had the same operation I'd had and it was good to chat rehab with someone who had been through what I was about to go through.

I do agree that the problem is with the system and not with the Crabs, which is why I think the solution should apply to everyone and not just the Crabs. Those who believe there is no problem are just stuck up with their furor about a thread that is primarily aimed at the Crab.

I still think there being a limit to how many club subbie posts count per period of time. It still promotes activity within the subbies, but those who talk lots about SR sim, in the main SR subbie will be able to get to the top of activity. Those who are active in their club subbie will still be rewarded for their contributions and can still get to the top, but they will fall behind slightly if that's all they end up doing and other people contribute elsewhere. The first X number of posts will still count for the same, so for the less active ones it doesn't matter at all.

That's not what I meant. I post most of my more personal stuff in my club subbies, but there are many things which aren't as personal that I post in the general pub. I would say I sit slightly on the more "conservative" side in that sense. There are some, like Rego, who are on the other extreme and seem to post everything to the pub.

I think this is a good idea.

As much as I'd love to see the Crabs disbanded and spread around a bit, I feel like that's really unfair on them, when really they haven't done anything 'wrong'.

BUT the Spartans made the competition enough of a joke the last couple of seasons, but the Crabs dominance would make it even more farcical, and as Cribbs said, there was always an end in sight with the Spartans, there won't be with the Crabs.
I admire and am jelly of their team culture and the bonds they've formed, but it means it's almost impossible to get a crab to move elsewhere, I've tried many times.
So you won't have natural player movement,
You're not gonna have activity dips,
They're just going to get stronger and stronger.

So as much as it's not 'fair' to penalise them, it's a lot more unfair on everyone else not to.
Disbanding them, whilst logical, seems like a cunty thing to do, especially if they don't win this season.
Although any penalties on posting etc will only go so far, as they're still gonna be 100x more active than other teams, especially if there's gonna be a long break between seasons, when teams notoriously go quiet.

So I really don't know what to think here, it seems like being fair to the competition will mean being unfair to the crabs.
But the integrity of the comp has to come first.

All Crabs to just join the stars imo.

Yeah, I've suggested something similar in the Crabs subbie. Weight posts in this subforum and in the RU Discussion forum more, then have subforum posts, then a lesser weighting for other posts. Relatively speaking, something like:

    RUSim/RU Discussion : 2
    RUSim subforum: 1
    Rest of forum: 0.5

    Put it to a vote.

would it be fair to say that the crabs have the most posts in this thread. should our opinions count for less in here because we are more prolific?

  11. Cribbage RG Cribb

I don't know actually.. Heath, myself, Marcuss and Escath all play for the same club and we've all posted lots in here.

well anyway, since this thread is about the crab's conundrum, the posts shouldn't count to your post count.

I'll accept a lesser weighting for my cricketweb whinging posts if marcus cops one for his crab whinging posts. Him getting his stats up because of cricketweb is not whta seasonal rugby is all about.

I haven't eaten all morning so this thread is making me hungry. How do you guys like your crab? Baked?

thats right, and in fact i think its unfair that the spartans are so good because their subbie is based on whinging about the crabs.

Not a lot of subforum Crabs whinging tbf; they do it in public mostly.

Likewise the Hurricanes whinge about Fung a lot. Hopefully it gives us an unfair advantage over the Vikings.

Hurricanes/Vikings rivalry by far the best thing about Seasonal Rugby right now.

Even if I did only really just notice it yesterday.

We should really be talking about the Fung Conundrum instead of this irrelevant thing.

I'd say it's the worst thing, hardly fair that they get the best rivalry just because they post about each other more than the other sides do.
