Going to be an interesting off season.

We've released the majority of our props/middle third over the last 18 months: Learoyd Lahrs, Tilse, Shillington, Nichols, Page, O'Donnell, Edwards. This leaves the club with current middle third options Vaughan, Fensom, FPN (probably the worst in the NRL), Boyd, Bateman and Pangai.

Shillington, Tilse, Edwards & Nichols have been released from the top 25 since the start of this season. I know it isn't as simple as one replacing the other but fuck there must be soem cap space/spots to fill there.

Making the situation even more interesting is the good year Papalii and Soliola had on the edges. With only 8 interchanges you don't really want to be making more than 1/2 subs a game on an edge at most IMO. Meanwhile Mitch Barnett won NSW Cup player of the year competition wide and looks a tremendous prospect there and we've signed Whitehead who is apparently one of the best attacking forwards in the ESL and looks a born wide running second rower in the Gav Cooper mould. So some of this crew will have to spend time in the middle but the club has a fuckload of signings to make as Stuart has released almost all of the depth players too. I'm near certain they have money for one more big forward signing having missed out on Tamou, whether one becomes available is another story./

It's indicative of the way Stuart builds or the more pessimistic stance, deteriorates the squads he's given.

He's a second rower hoarder of the highest level.

It'll be interesting to see how teams manage their benches with the interchange reduced to 8, I'm convinced it wont directly affect the pace of the game but we already saw quicker ruck speeds this year IMO and there could be a big shift back to picking mobile benches with the bigger second rowers filling in as mobile props.

Agree to an extent. I think he's just brushed all of Furner's pets at the first opportunity. He's definitely improved the top 25, and greatly.

I see Papalii or Soliola getting moved into the front row rotation so you'll have something like this:

    8. Papalii (Soliola)
    10. FPN (TVPJ hopefully)
    11. Papalii (Soliola)
    12. Whitehead
    13. Fensom

    14. Vaughan
    15. Boyd

I could also see Vaughan starting and playing more minutes due to the interchange reduction and frankly FPN doesn't cut it 80% of the time..

Club forums are the worst. Blind loyalty and uncritical thinking is one of the most repulsive traits.

NRL draw is out and Canberra have deadset received the softest draw possible.

lay twice: Panthers, Knights, Titans, Bulldogs, Eels, Sharks, Wests Tigers, Sea Eagles, Warriors.
Play once: Broncos, Cowboys, Dragons, Rabbitohs, Roosters, Storm.

    That's bloody ridiculous.

    I obviously stoked.

But it's an absolute joke any club can end up with what Canberra have been blessed with.

Think I'll throw a few pennies on them to sneak into the 8 on that. Whats the home/away break down?

I think 4 out of the 6 teams playing once are at home.

That's insane. No excuses for Canberra to finish any lower than 6 with that draw.

I'm pretty excited about the talk of Lachlan Croker being used as a utility on the bench instead of a bench hooker.

Will be interesting to see if the interchange reduction actually has any effect. I'm pretty adamant it won't but the game definitely has gotten a lot quicker over the past couple years. It may be a final straw like scenario that just blows the defences wide open.

I'd be surprised if any sides ran with all forward benches this season, Dogs obviously excluded.

Do we know what they're going to do with Whitehead? All 3 backrowers are 80 minute players.

  19. Julian BJ Taylor

I think Whitehead will start the season on the bench. Papalii will play 20-30 at second row and play the rest of the game at prop.

Only this makes sense considering they're very light up front with Vaughan, Boyd, FPN, Lima, Kennedy and Bateman the only real prop options (and 2 of them aren't props).

Could also see Soliola playing some minutes in the middle to accommodate.
