    Centrelink scales your benefits based on your situation. No, you do not get a huge amount because you tick the Indigenous box or I'd be a fucking millionaire.

    But yes, Indigenous Australians do get extra benefits to encourage study etc, but this is to benefit the people in the long run.




    Would the AFL allow an all-white team to play? No, that'd be selection based on skin colour to form artificial teams. If there was an all-European heritage team, or an all-Pacific Island representative team, a team based around an established and recognisable community than I'm sure the AFL would allow them to do the same.

    To make this thread a little less political - an Aussie Rules World Cup in which the Indigenous Allstars represented Australia would potentially be interesting. All the teams would essentially be heritage teams with players digging through through their family trees, but I wonder how it'd pan out.

    Because otherwise Australia would win every game by a million points and it wouldn't be worth playing. :p

    You'd just have to bill it as a heritage World Cup. It obviously has little to no commercial value and therefore would never happen but it's an interesting hypothetical; wonder who'd win.

    Most players in the AFL would identify their heritage as Australian as they're 3rd, 4th+ generation Australians.

    I think what gets me in this sort of argument is that something like "Anglo-pride" would be seen as inherently racist. Like, I know in South Africa that anyone going around saying "I'm proud to be white" would basically be seen as a racist. Same with gender and sexuality- male-pride and hetero-pride campaigns would be seen to be wrong by the majority of society.

    And I understand the underlying reasoning for it all - previous disadvantages and what not - but surely if we accept that all should be equal, we can accept pride in what one is in terms of race/gender/sexuality as an equivalent to what patriotism is for pride in nationality?
