Does it have to touch the line/the air above the line, or cross the line? It was definitely in line with the 40m line but certainly hadn't crossed it at all.

What a treat tomorrow, Public holiday and the footy is on.... fucking Dogs V Dragons. What a doozy.

I don't think the ball had gone the 10, but fuck I'll take it.

We got fucked by a couple of calls last week so refs giving us one, I'll take it as a square up.

Curtis Scott is the weak link. Deadest reserve grader. Hopefully he gets sacked over the Moore Park incident.

Canberra were horrendous. They actually started the same against Melbourne getting belted up the guts too.

Williams was out of position all night.

Yeh never understood the hype around this guy. Looked very average in an excellent system at Melbourne but always seemed to be getting pumped up by the media for Origin duties.

  7. Julian BJ Taylor

Yep. I thought he was a spud from the first time I saw him. This forum hates Leilua but him to Scott is such a significant downgrade and really hurts the forward pack too.

he was struggling to match Ponga’s speed but several times Williams was in the process of or about to tackle and Scott then came in. He’s a horrific footy player given he’s somehow got a reputation of being a potential Origin player.

Honesty have him as the second back up for the outside backs. Both Rapana and Oldfield (and probably Smith-Shields too tbh) are superior players.

Will be funny as fuck if they draw.

Scott came in because he had no faith in Williams. And rightly so. He never looked comfortable at all. What are you supposed to do when he looks like being beaten for pace every time they shift there?

Dragons look miles better when Clune has it. Then Hunt gets it and everything turns to shit.

  12. Cribbage RG Cribb

Yeah Clune's barely got involved at all but looked decent when he has. Tough gig as a debutant half with not only so many other playmakers in the spine but all of them playing like absolute shit. At one point he had to compete with two hookers and two other halves for ball, and even before Luke came on Graham was at lock.

In terms of cost for performance, Hunt is the worst player in the game. By some margin. He's barely fg standard and the bloke is on a mil per season.

  14. Lukic L Popovic

Fuck watching Hunt play is sad. The number of times he gets caught on 5th tackle down the short side is laughable. That dropped kick ruined his career.

Hunt, Boyd and McCullough almost won a premiership together.

Boyd is on 200k less than Hunt tho. And the latter has a much bigger impact on game results just because of the differences between the two positions.

Was randomly looking at this week's match odds and realised the AFL now has less one-sided games than the NRL. For years the NRL has been superior in terms of the closeness of the competition whilst the AFL looked stupid with how many lopsided games they had due to expansion. Now look at the NRL.. and they actually think they can expand soon under this climate.

Every team is getting shitter too. No Cronk, Maloney or Widdop. Smith is getting old now and Melb will collapse without him. North Qld are not recovering anytime soon from losing Thurston. Pearce and Cherry Evans have gone from inconsistent 2nd tiers to becoming the top players of the league and they're probably playing worse than they used to. These are about to be some dark days for rugby league.

Closeness in games has largely been manufactured by the wrestling and slowing down of play the balls limiting sides attacking ability. On the contrary I think we may actually be headed in the right direction as a game.

The Bulldogs, Broncos and Dragons are no worse as a side this year than they were last year the great equaliser of being able to limit how many points the opposition can score by just fucking up the ruck and hoping to pick up a few lucky tries seems to have dicipated with the new rules and 1 ref.

How long that will last for is anyone's guess.

But if it does I think we will see a pretty dramatic shift towards more entertaining half play and dummy halves. Its already promising seeing centres actually get some clean ball with space around them.

In standard rugby league fashion everyone will whinge about change but naturally as the rules change clubs, players and positions will evolve. For the better or worse who knows but I feel like something had to change.

The AFL isn't the greatest example either just looking at their Round 1 results...
