    I dont see how Canberra win this. Easts have the better offence, better defence, better kicking, more threats in the air, vastly more experience, better bench, and so forth.

    The only reliable weakness i see for Easts is getting outside Mitchell and i dont trust CNK and BJ to do that sufficiently to exploit it.

    Short of Friend coming in with serious rust and playing a shocker....even then they can swap him out for Radley or maybe Verrills if they carry him on the bench for Butcher. Unlikely Friend wont be ready to go though after waiting so long.

    All logic says the same thing. I’m still beside myself that Canberra are there.

    All I’m thinking is I’m more confident at being a shot in this game than all of those big games I’ve gone into as a fan the last decade, namely Origin.

    I think night time at ANZ suits Canberra making it close. I’m shutting bricks about the edge defence more than anything else. I’ll be there cheering the mighty green machine regardless.

    I also agree that selecting Friend (and Verills as reports are saying) is a ridiculous play by Robinson if it happens and I hope it does. Roosters are better pretty much everywhere but back row and hooker so it’s a long shot but you have to be there to be a shot and they are.

    Hodgson is clearly a key difference. The more games he plays in the NRL the more impressed i am by him. He'll never replace Roby as my favourite Pom import though, despite him being the better player.

    lol I so want Easts to win the first half so I can unashamedly jump ship at HT and go for my childhood side, the green machine. It's gonna suck tho if the first time Easts are at full strength all season, they get dusted after 40 and 80. That will certainly suck. They're 19 from 20 in the first half in Sydney and are the best first 40 side in the comp so hopefully.....

    Roosters have a perfect bench but if they put Verills on there they ruin that a bit. I'd be picking Friend if he's no concern for an injury whatsoever, an underdone Friend is still fitter and a better defender, not as lightweight as Verills, more experienced in the ruck and less likely to do something stupid under pressure. Verills did one play last week where he ran on the last at an important moment and screwed up. You say Friend is a risk but so is Verills.. it's not like the Roosters started playing better with some new structure or emphasis he's added.. they were always playing well. And Friend's defence and lying in the ruck always helps to relieve the roosters pack, something that's not so visible but always there. They don't really need an attacking hooker like Verills.

    I heard Friend ruled himself out yesterday.

    The rain and night time slot definitely favour Canberra. Perfect conditions for a spoil.
