Don't forget De Bruyne too. If he'd had more of a chance at Chelsea, you'd all see why. Fairly certain there's another midfielder too. And Mertens is decent.

They're back 4 is actually really really good, if Vermaelen accepts that playing left back for his country is best. Toby Alderweireld goes alright at right back too.

I dunno, it depends what your standards are. More than half of those players are yet to play a single CL game- they're almost all stand-out young players at clubs a tier below the top level. I think in reality there are a lot of players everyone would choose over Fellaini or Witsel or Mirallas on current ability.

    Maybe Mirallas.

Fuck Fellaini's goal today was bullshit too.

Hold it right there- Fellaini scored a goal? This changes everything. He must surely be a better midfielder than Xavi, Alonso, Iniesta, Busquets, Pirlo, Martinez, Yaya Toure, Mata, Cazorla, Ozil, Kroos, Muller, Gundogan, Carrick, Fernandinho, Silva, Modric, and all the other players that have featured in a single World Cup or Champions League game once in their careers.

    What?

I think Fellaini is one of the most overrated players in the world and a beneficiary of playing the Tim Cahill role in Moyes setup and will be found out next season.

You've missed me completely. Belgium's team isn't a group of young players with potential, most of them are in their prime right now or very close to it. I don't think they're great because they've only just won a lot of their games so far and Courtouis has by far been their best player and carried the team but to say that the hype on them is on potential and not current ability is wrong imo.

Djimi Traore played in a CL Final and won it

Clearly better then all the nubs who haven't played in a CL final :sarcasm:

Giggs never played a world cup.

    what a hack.

Fellaini is a better defensive midfielder than he is attacking in the "Tim Cahill role".

Couldn't agree more. Funny what a few goals can do for your reputation though.

I just think that the majority of their players aren't among the best in the world at the moment but could easily be in four or five years time. It's a bit of a golden generation but it won't be at its peak for a while.

Not sure they'll win anything, though. Having their players scattered all over Europe and not playing together doesn't really help.

I'm not really decided on this. He works brilliantly in tight spaces higher up the pitch. You don't really get the best out of his whole chest-ball game when he's at DM. But then you need everyone else to know exactly how to best use him, and even then he might never be able to match a Mata-type player in that sort of role.

I'm also not that sure about his defensive positioning/intelligence. I suppose it would come if he played more at DM but I don't remember him effectively shutting down a good passing team the way Lucas/Makelele types would.

yeah really agree with the sentiment of this post.

Also Uruguay Venezuela is a huge match in 2 days time.

If Uruguay lose they'll be extremely hard pressed to qualify. They'd be 6 back with 4 games to play including Argentina at home and Columbia on the road.

England should be able to overtake Montenegro quite easily after they overachieved early on, but Ukraine have hit some good form and whilst it's not as talented team boasting the likes of Shevchenko, Voronin and Tymoschuk in the past, the emergence of the Ukrainian Premier League has led to better players being produced all round and far greater depth. The match in Kiev between England and Ukraine will be huge and will decide the group winner.

Despite a 1-0 loss to Portugal, Russia should wrap up their group as they have two games in hand on Portugal and their remaining fixtures include Northern Ireland at home and Luxembourg twice.

Bosnia look set to make their first world cup on the back of their fearsome attack with Pjanic, Lulic, Misimovic, Ibisevic and Dzeko all chipping in. The perennial cheesers Greece will instead have to go through the playoff round.

Group A looks like it's Belgium's for the taking with games against Scotland, Croatia and Macedonia remaining. Croatia also lead Serbia by 9 points with 3 games to go for second place, but should they somehow lose all 3 and Serbia win all 3, the later will be going through. Something that seemed impossible before yesterday, but if the Scots can pull another surprise on the final match day, you never know.

Italy, Germany, Holland and Spain the usuals all look set to go through, along with Switzerland whilst France are going to have to make do with a playoff spot.

Are you saying he isn't better than Fernandihno?

When he's played there in the past he's done very well.

  18. Uppercut CB Faldo

Well yeah but he's awesome higher up too. Just not really sure which he's best at.
