Kimmorley was very solid in his early Origin career. More than solid in fact. He was quality. After Johns retired he came back into the frame and played some okay games. He was definitely the best halfback NSW have had during the 7 years dynasty. But that isn't really saying much; Pearce, Wallace, Mullen, Finch...

Kimmorley always played better for Australia. He was unbelievable at Test level but never as for good for NSW and he will always be remembered for one bad pass.

I was sitting in a brisbane restaurant/bar with my uncle and about 150 other people wearing my NSW hat when he through that pass

Snowden last night. 17 runs, 197 meters, 24 Tackles, 0 missed tackles and 0 errors.

Against a decent size Raiders pack. Possibly playing back into form and contention for Origin again?

I don't think one game (or even a string of games) makes up for a year of rubbish.

    Sam Thaiday.

Peter Wallace (except he's never played a good game).

    You know yourself that's lies.

The difference is that we had blokes like Berrigan and Flannery in the halves back then. At least NSW have options in the halves. We had nothing.

Yes but that only lasted one year. I'd rather one year of that than 7 years of the mediocrity that NSW have had.

From 99 to 04, we had some absolutely shithouse halves in our side. In that time we used Lam, Walters, Ikin, Green, Wagon, Berrigan, Langer, Flannery, Lockyer and Prince.

That's 10 halves in 6 years, so thus absolutely no continuity, but on top of that, some absolute stinkers for halves like Berrigan, Wagon and Flannery. The six year period that NSW has gone through is very comparable to that period. Particularly when you consider that Walters was in the last year of his career, Lam was heading towards the end, Langer was mid 30's, Lockyer had just switched from fullback and Prince was nowhere near the player he became.

    And Julian O'Neill.

Nah I don't think it is, in the context about which EWS was complaining. We had Allan Langer, one of the best Origin halves of all time. It's just that he went overseas. That alone makes it incomparable to the current NSW situation. If Langer stays, we have him and Ikin/Berrigan for 1999-2002. 2003 is the only year that fits the current NSW situation IMO. Langer retired and we truly were without recourse.

Does say a lot of the right things in that article.

Not worried about form and willing to back incumbency mainly...

Loz actually made a lot of sense (wtf)

He speaks a lot of truth, but Mitchell Pearce has been abysmal in his Origin career so far. They should be looking for someone better to take over.

I think it is quite similar to NSW at the moment. NSW do have some very good quality halves in Campese and Carney, it is just that they aren't playing for NSW consistently. I don't mean to compare Carney to Langer but the situations are very similar - NSW have some good halves but a combination of injuries, bad luck and poor selection have denied them the opportunity. It was the same with QLD - they had a quality player in Langer but Warrington was willing to pay more coin so they lost him.

The talent was there in both cases. But it wasn't necessarily running out onto Lang Park.

There's also the fact that even in 99 Alfie was 33. He was in the twilight of his career.

Alfie, what a legend. Dominated NSW even at like 36, and instead of water bottles, he likely just had beer in them.
