Too black and white. Not all dog shots are the same. Hodges didn't start a fight for one thing. And as I said, the punches were pathetic. I probably wouldn't have binned him, but I wouldn't have blown up if he was. I maintain though that what Merrin did and what Hodges did were not equivalent.

Just because they're not equivalent doesn't mean they're not both sin binning offences, if you don't bin Hodges then you're saying it's ok for a 3rd man to come into any fight and put in a few short jabs so long as they're not too hard?

Please, there's no way you could sit there and say that with a straight face.

Hodges was more of a swinging arm. Under the current rules, his sin binning is fine, but with common sense, he should have stayed on. Tate and Bird is lol worthy.

Like Gemmell said, they were half punches, half swinging arms. I don't like third men in but it was pretty innocuous. And as I said, I really couldn't give a fuck either way. I agree with Paul Gallen of all people that Merrin probably should've been the only one to go. I don't like what Hodges did but it was pretty meh.

Hodges could cure cancer and you cunts would find something wrong with it. I'm happy he got in there and defended Tate. But under the current rules, that's 10 in the bin. Hodges and Merrin isn't worth discussing, they both got hit with the rules of the last week, but Tate and Bird got F'd in the A.

Some cracks starting to appear, not everyone has support for Gallen. Fans are voicing it.

New South Wales captain Paul Gallen ruled out of action for up to five weeks through injury

Good.. he is a grub..and now NSW can pick a decent player that doesn't give our team a bad name. GREAT NEWS.

Well NSW haven't exactly had any success when he has played, so I fail to see how it'd be a disaster. He's played in 7 series for 7 losses, hasn't he?

So are they just waiting for Gallen to retire before making his 'roids usage public?

I have nothing against what Hodges did, couldn't care less but there's no way cunts can demand sin binnings for dog shots and then justify leaving Hodges on the field because they were soft punches. MF never took this stance when Jennings grazed Tate's head, it was the intention and 3rd man in that he was most adamant about.

Hodges got 0 weeks for his punches which was fair and Merrin got 1 week which was lucky on his part.

Rules should be black and white because then we get consistency on the field, suspensions is where we can spend all day analysing the actual footage and getting the correct outcome.

Making something black and white isn't possible.

  11. Magic AJ Parker

    Of course it is.

Throw a punch at someone who's not looking and you get 10 in the bin. That's a far better rule than the one we've got now.

Force can be determined post game with the match review committee unless ofcourse it's a king hit ala Danny Williams which would obviously be a Send Off. Trent Merrin came mighty close to the latter.

  12. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

Merrin was closer to a send off than not hitting the bin. The sin bin is there for a reason, I think an unprovoked punch deserves it.

Trying to see things in black and white is your entire problem. Black and white leads to the sort of absurd rationale that you advocate - Get rid of the sin bin completely.

And what stance am I taking now that I didn't take when Jennings did what he did? I think the sin bin should be used for dog shots that are unprovoked and dangerous. What Hodges did was not dangerous. What Hayne did in Game I last year was not dangerous. What Jennings did was highly dangerous. What Merrin did was unprovoked and dangerous. Suggesting that there is an equivalence between what Hodges did and what Jennings did is yet another absurd conclusion that follows when you try to see things in black and white. (Mind you, I think it's pretty bloody black and white that a hay-maker to the back of the head, regardless of grazing, is not remotely comparable to what Hodges did.

Jennings' was a lot worse than Merrin's IMO.

  15. Magic AJ Parker

So in answer to my question you're fine with 3rd man in punches so long as the player makes sure they're not too hard?

  16. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

To answer your fatuous question, the nature of the punch is pertinent, yes. What Hodges did wasn't remotely dangerous. It was just cheap.

  17. Magic AJ Parker

Interesting, I think you'd be setting a very stupid precedent there. But each to their own.

  18. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

Yeah, using motivation and nature of offence to determine sin binnings. How absurd. Much better to get rid of the sin bin and just save the send off for Danny Williams king hits. That's responsible...

Your opinions on this really aren't that far away from mine as much as you want to pretend they are. You clearly don't give a shit about 99% of punches thrown and the ones that are severe enough to give two fucks about are borderline send off offences anyway.

Charges from the match review committee for dog shots and send offs for the king hits when no one is looking is the way to go.

How on earth can you say that knowing what I've said on this topic over the last um, 5 minutes, and up to the last 18 months?

So Jennings should've been sent off?
