Milford chose Qld this year.... If he's been picked in the Australian PMs squad then I see no issue with it. The sides purpose is to give players on the cusp of rep selection a taste of rep football.
I hate the fact that teams name these ridiculous train-on squads more than a month out. It is the most random collection of players and tells you nothing ... except which teams are out of the finals if you haven't been paying much attention. Australia squad: Brett Morris, Josh Dugan, Trent Merrin (St George-Illawarra), Jarryd Hayne, Will Hopoate (Parramatta Eels), Beau Scott, Kurt Gidley, Willie Mason (Newcastle Knights), Anthony Milford, Jack Wighton, Jarrod Croker, Josh Papalii (Canberra Raiders), Andrew Fifita, Luke Lewis, Michael Gordon (Cronulla Sharks), Aaron Woods, Robbie Farah (Wests Tigers), Aidan Sezer, Dave Taylor, Greg Bird (Titans), Jacob Lillyman (NZ Warriors).
I have thought about this for the past hour and I think while Whare may be a better player we are more likely to win with Hurrell. I just think he has more heart and we basically need to play above our normal abilities to win this comp. Hurrell reminds me of our legendary players from the 80s such as McCracken.
He fits my point though. McCracken wasn't a stand out athlete - but he was well suited to test rugby. He was a real asset for us. No way he gets a look in for an Aussie team - yet he held his own in illustrious company. Our poster child for standing up and playing above yourself was Olsen Filipina (sp?)
Only really makes sense for Australia to do it that way as well, because it's an indicator of the PM's side.
Meanwhile one notes Jack Reed is broken again. Think England will seriously struggle. I'm assuming the union-bound Sam Burgess will play no part either.
