Couldn't find a thread, but: Australia New Zealand England Samoa If Samoa field a full strength line up, England may struggle to win a game.
I've heard this trotted out so many times and it never comes true. People continually underestimate the huge gulf between the top three teams and the rest of the world. 1990 was the last time a Great Britain or England team lost a Test to someone other than Australia or New Zealand.
True enough, but we did lose to "Italy" in the pre-WC warm up last year. & I'm guessing we won't have Burgess, S by the time of the 4 Nations either.
England & NZ are pretty level IMO. Especially after Kearney's perceived success in picking a team based on form for the ANZAC Test. Don't understand why Fiji aren't the 4th team though. After all they made the semi-finals last year.
Yeah, while Brittanica is pretty hopeless, they are still a lot better than any other side that isn't Australia or NZ.
Think I'm going to Wellington for the final. Actually hoping it will be NZ v Eng for entertainment factor.
Taylor and quite a few others pretty much wrote off the Poms before the World Cup last year because they lost a warm-up to Italy, I think it was. Yet they still got to within one Sinfield missed tackle/Johnson side-step in the dying seconds, of making the final. It has a lot to do with location, I think. England were the better side in that semi and would've put up a much better show in the final in front of 70,000 of their own fans than the Kiwis did. Fair play to NZ, they did play better than I thought they would based on their previous 6 or 7 visits. Down here though, England have the same problem. They're terrible away from home. That said, they won't lose to Samoa.
In terms of actual quality of personnel. I think NZ has the advantage over England. It's not a huge one though. I mean I think the difference in quality between Australia and the Kiwis is bigger, for example.
Sammy Burgess won't be playing in this I would assume? Regardless England's forward pack should be solid Graham Gurgess Turgess Hock Ellis Cooper Lurgess On a quick think already
Samoa could trott something like this out: Mata'utia, Vidot, Leilua, Lafai, Winterstein, Milford, Roberts, Fa'alogo, Manumalealii, Paulo, Soliola, Maitua, Liu; Masoe, Tagataese, Godinet, Ah Mau Then there's Lui, Sene-Lafao, Inu, Mata'utia, Matagi, Moors, Iosefa, Peyroux, Sue and Tuimaveve. That's a lot of first graders.
