If you had Giggs or Solskjaer in your team, they would have to play LW and CF because you're judging them on their whole career in the Premiership...
Considering the amount of players picked on 1/2 seasons prem careers, would you say that Gerrard at RM wouldn't have been picked if you forget his CM career or would he have done a bad job if picked there ?
You can't just simply forget Gerrard career in CM just because he had one good season out of position, because we are judging them on their career. Gerrard had a very good year in 2005/06 as a RM but he wasn't picked early because of that year, he was picked for years of performing at CM and where he was picked to play by Murtini Solano had a career has a RM and played a few occasions at RB... this is a premiership all star draft, you need to judge them on their career and not just one good spell It is your weaklink and it will cost you votes in my opinion
Well I'm judging players on their career in the Premiership and Solano wasn't good enough to be picked in that position
Just in case I am missing the point There is a major difference between Solano at RB, Gerrard at RM and say Giggs at CM. Gerrard performed at a high standard at RM, Giggs has as a CM but Solano really didn't at RB... The fact that people have decided to pick Gerrard as a CM and Giggs LW speaks volumes that people have picked these players in their best positions whereas this isn't the case for Solano I really don't want to come across as a cunt in this, because I do like the rest of your team and if you had a solid RB, I would've gone for your team.
Solano played at Right back on many occasions through his career and then had a sustained spell on occasions for both Aston Villa and Newcastle. Anyways, i think we are seeing it differently here. You are aggregating each players career and then comparing his second position with his first, while i'm just comparing the time he spent in the second position in the PL to another player who plays that position and in terms of who would give me better balance. If you're point was that he didn't play there long enough in the PL, and you were then applying the same to a player who just had 2 seasons in the PL and left then fair enough. But what you are doing is saying because he played for a longer while in the other position, his time at position B should count for less.
Yeah, that's fair enough. While he wasn't great at RB, he was decent atleast is what i am trying to say. I.e he wasn't a dud. I knew while picking him in any case that playing him at RB could cost me votes and explaining it with his career at the wings being in the memory would be tough, but went ahead with it as i felt personally at least that him and Valencia together would give me good balance of attack and defence.
At this standard Solano is a pretty dire RB. Although he didn't do too badly for Newcastle when he filled in there, Baxters midfield of Parlour - Merson - Pires would have made a fool out of him.
Just my opinion but picking Solano is an "all star Premiership draft" means he should've been picked in his best and natural position because of the options available at RB And the fact that he wasn't even that good at RB to be selected in an all star draft, or I should say good enough, he was decent in that position and that's it IMO... the other players in their 'second position' have performed better in these position as well but I still wouldn't select them 'out of positions'
Is Vermaelen really playing left back for Baxter? When has he played left back for Arsenal? I may well have missed something from him, I just didn't think Vermaelen had played there for Arsenal.
Yeah, fair enough. He could have trouble against Pires and Valencia would have to help out. But on the other side i'd love to see him and Valencia together get at Vermaelen at LB. Also Giggs at Grimandi at RB.
He has played there for them quite often even this season, even though his best position is CB. Been Ok'ish there, even if he doesn't like it. http://www.goal.com/en-us/news/85/england/2012/02/12/2901670/arsenals-thomas-vermaelen-admits-he-is-sick-of-playing-at
Well what with your Solano argument, it's clear there are players who would have been better picks for left back than a fed up centre back who's playing out of position. Fair enough. Would be interesting to know exactly how many games he's actually played at left back.
Yeah definitely. Although Solano has probably played at right back in the prem more than Vermaelen has played at left back.
Because Solano has played more games If I had to guess I'd say that Vermaelen has a higher percentage of games at LB than Solano at RB but that'll be a guess
Well yeah, but Solano has also played in other positions, other than RB and RM, whereas Vermaelen has only played CB and LB iirc?
