    How's their national team doing?

I don't think there are any players close to the English national sideplaying outside of the UK are there?

Higher than England in the recent FIFA World rankings (I know mean fuck all). Also finished top of their group with 26 points, not bad. Just had a terrible WC.

Only player I can think of is Cole (On loan to Lille)
Also Dale Jennings for the future ;)

You can also argue, any English player that moves to a foreign team, doesn't really join a massive team when he returns back to England

    Owen - Newcastle
    Woodgate - Middlesboro
    Pennant - Stoke

I do think our finance system is a lot better than quite a few countries, obviously Germany is the one that comes to mind as being the superior but non of the others have any major restrictions on buying same as us, and their money sharing is a hell of a lot worse than ours

And with the national team, I don't think we're exactly stalled due to the development of the players, for some time we've had some of the best players in the world in quite a few positions, we just play like shite with an England shirt on, management just doesn't help them at all

At most we should probably only ever be a quater final country, obviously when the tournaments come around we're allowed to turn into biased idiots going THIS IS OUR YEAR THIS IS OUR YEAR, but I wouldnt say we really really underperform as a nation, we just arnt that good as a national team

Of the top of my head

    Adam Eckersley
    Kenny Pavey
    Dale Jennings
    Joe Cole
    Scott Carson
    Rooneys brother
    Beckham

    Not a lot

Jennings is quite highly thought of at Bayern, no doubt the English media will hail him as the second coming of Jesus within a few months.

I dunno about the financial systems, at best your on par with the likes of Italy, Spain etc. I'm a big fan of the new financial fairplay system coming in, I think it should of been done years ago. Gives smaller teams a chance to do ok without having to risk their future as such [a la Portsmouth for example, I'd bet Wigan are in the shit if they go down as well]

I agree that the money sharing is far better, but it's not much competition with the likes of Spain, which is just a stupid. If Liverpool got their way with a new TV deal I'd deadset stop watching English football in protest, fight da pow-ar.

I agree in some aspects with some of the best players, but what did England have outside of a few players which is what I'm getting at. Sure you can develop some world class players, but you need some very good players after, something England hasn't had in years and years.

Careful mentioning Jennings, GIMH will blow his load.

I don't know how Cole has done this season but I wouldn't say he was close to the side anymore. You'd have:

    Young
    Theo
    Downing
    Milner
    Johnson
and debateably Lennon ahead of him atm IMO.

SWP not having a bad season either.

    Not an unreasonable statement.

You'd put Rio, Terry, Cole, Lampard, Gerrard, Scholes, Rooney in their primes among the best in that category. We've just lacked people in certain positions.

No decent holding midfielder since Hargreaves' injuries, lack of decent wingers, until Hart keepers were letting us down. Etc.

Only one I can think of in recent times is Ashley Cole

Can someone clarify the rules on who's allowed to play in the GB team in the olympics?

Ah right. Would be so gun to see someone like Ryan Giggs playing with Beckham and another old time United player, like Scholes or someone, again tbh.

  14. Verigoat S Verigotta

Martin O'Neil, Kenny Dalgeish and Mark Hughes running the midfield

Nah, wouldn't want him representing GB in anything these days.
