Season 2 Grand Final: Vikings vs. Spartans

...The ball comes to Bobby Blunder and he goes for the grubber kick. That's really caught the Vikings defense by surprise and Blunder runs past a dazed forward and gathers the ball himself. Spartans on the break here, Perry comes across and tackles Blunder, but he's offloaded to Ames. Deep inside the Vikings 22 now

 

...Ames deterred from the try line by a back tracking Steve Cambridge but managed to evade the attempted tackle. Ames running out of steam, so he looks for the pass. Just 4m from the Vikings line here.

Ames with a good pass to Eggman. Eggman with his head down. Can he drives for the line, with bodies around him... Yes, he's got it down!

Ames with a tricky conversion, but makes it look easy.

Spartans hit the lead 7 - 5.

 

22:30. On the Vikings 22m line again, with another attack for the Spartans. Kyle Tait passes to Paddy Orr who gains about 5m before offloading to Markarse Deane. He's tackled well by Dave Armstrong and the Vikings fancy turning this one over. In come Delonge, Lewis and Torres but Eggman and Laing try to bring it back for the Spartans.

The whistle goes. Deane pinged for not releasing the ball.

Hunt with the ball, goes to kick for touch but somehow Blunder gets across and flips the ball in - keeping it in play. Hunt trying an aggressive move there that just about didn't pay off. Blunder runs upfield, passes to Deane. Deane to Hutchinson...

 

...Hutchinson makes a break for it. He puts on a turn of speed to evade Wes Welker. Damien Taylor is catching up with him, Hutchinson tries the shimmy, but Taylor doesn't fall for it. Does Hutchinson have support?

 

Nah. This isn't League. You don't keep running until you get tackled, bro!

...anyway... Yes, Tait is there and Hutchinson successfully offloads to Tait who's clear. No one will stop him! Try to the Spartans in the corner.

Spartans 12 - 5 Vikings

 

25:30 Blunder takes the ball on the half way line and kicks for touch. Gains about 20 yards there. Decent kick for territory in these conditions.

Delonge with the throw, good throw, but the Spartans have telegraphed this. Laing gets lifted well and steals! It looks like the Spartans will set up a maul, but instead Laing passes away to Loughman.

Loughman tries to dart round the line out, but Dempsey gets in a clean tackle. Deane, Denton and Laing are straight in there and they secure the ball. Izett looks for the pick and go from the back of the ruck, but he's fumbled it. Scrum to the Vikings.

 

Ooh. A well contested scrum, but the Vikings eventually secure the ball. Perry takes an age to clear the ball from the back of the scrum as the ref tries to keep the defensive line on side. Perry to Hunt. Hunt to James, but the defense are up on him quickly and he's tackled by Tait.

Only forwards around initially, and Regan Hutchinson is the first to get to the ruck. The forwards get there, but Hutchinson looks to have been decisive in turning James. Eggman drives in and secures the turnover.

 

The ball comes out and Loughman passes to the on rushing Deane, who brushes aside his opposite number. Deane passes to Orr who beats the tackle of James. Spartans making deep inroads into Viking territory here.

Orr breaches the 22m line and passes back to Deane who's stayed with him on his shoulder (not literally fuckwits). Deane tucks the ball under one arm and gives Perry the big fend, leaving the small guy sprawling...

 

Deane draws in the tackler, but this looks a well rehearsed move. He spins the ball out wide with a cut out pass to Blunder who finds himself unmarked and dots down. Perry looks livid. The defensive line should have had Blunder covered and he's giving some of his guys the hairdryer treatment here.

Ames converts an easy one by his standards.
