The Mighty Heefs/Gwilty as Charged

Why did MP pick Nathan Brown with pick 4? Surely a little early on, wasn't it?

Anyway, I thought I'd keep Selwood rather than Mackie as I get the feeling Mackie is starting to decline whilst Selwood could (in theory at least) still improve. But, for a first round versus a 5th round you might well be right in value terms.

  2. Skippos SM Morgan

Mackie had the best season of his career last season (made the all australian best 22) and is bettering it so far this season though.

MP picked brown because he supports collingwood. Most biased kid out there.

  3. HeathDavisSpeed HT Davis

But surely there were better picks from Collingwood left at that stage anyway?

  4. Skippos SM Morgan

As a full back brown's quite good. Defensively he doesn't make errors and keeps his man honest. Purely on defense he's probably a round 4-6 pick.

He's just incredibly injury prone and offers nothing in offense.

  5. HeathDavisSpeed HT Davis

Mitch Golby has been injured and will miss 3 weeks (Heef)
Nathan Brown has been injured and will miss 2 weeks (Heef)
Daniel Giansiracusa has been injured and will miss 2 weeks (Heef)
Nick Haynes has been injured and will miss 1 week (Heef)
Ben Cunnington has been injured and will miss 1 week (Heef)

    Returning:
    Stefan Martin
    Daniel Rich
    Brent Macaffer

FB: Matthew Jaensch - Beau Maister - Tom Logan
HB: Chris Yarran - Mitch Brown - Andrew Mackie
M: Sharrod Wellingham - Scott Selwood - Michael Rischitelli
HF: Stefan Martin - David Hale - Chris Masten
FF: Josh Hill - Jack Riewoldt - Jamie Elliott
R: Dean Cox - Daniel Rich - Stephen Coniglio
Int: Marley Williams - Chris Knights - Brent Macaffer
    Sub: Jamie MacMillan

Does the return of Martin give me the option of playing him down the middle and moving Hale and would there be any benefit in doing that anyway?

The changes I've otherwise made are Rischitelli in for the injured Cunnington (booo), Jaensch to BP to replace Morris. Yarran at HBF. I have a desire to drop Josh Hill but don't think I've got many options there.

  6. Skippos SM Morgan

Quite simply I just wouldn't play Martin.

    He's just not very good

  7. HeathDavisSpeed HT Davis

Stick Yarran at HFF and Williams at HBF, maybe?

  8. Skippos SM Morgan

I'd keep Morris in defence. Still one of the best defenders around despite not getting many stats

  9. HeathDavisSpeed HT Davis

Really? Doesn't look like he's performed at all in this.

    So you reckon this?

FB: Dale Morris - Beau Maister - Tom Logan
HB: Matthew Jaensch - Mitch Brown - Andrew Mackie
M: Sharrod Wellingham - Scott Selwood - Michael Rischitelli
HF: Chris Yarran - David Hale - Chris Masten
FF: Josh Hill - Jack Riewoldt - Jamie Elliott
R: Dean Cox - Daniel Rich - Stephen Coniglio
Int: Marley Williams - Chris Knights - Brent Macaffer
    Sub: Jamie MacMillan

  10. Skippos SM Morgan

    Yeah, that looks significantly better.

Also really important to have that third tall in there in case the opposition plays 3 talls. Morris acts as that third tall.

  11. HeathDavisSpeed HT Davis

Ah yeah. I forgot about the whole 3rd tall thing.

  12. Skippos SM Morgan

Yeah if you don't want Morris trade him to me :p

He's really one of your most valuable, can play on smalls or talls and shut them down equally as well.

Any issues there? I see Williams got a suspended sentence so should make his way back into the Collingwood line-up at some point.

  14. Skippos SM Morgan

Yeah and he's a good player. Worth retaining.

Newnes should definitely be retained, looking really good this season. I'd probably switch Golby with him as Golby's looking well out of touch right now.

If you can find a way to get Macaffer in it'd be ideal but I'm not sure who you'd drop for him. Masten perhaps? There'd likely be a better midfielder available in the 6th round than him.

  15. HeathDavisSpeed HT Davis

I'd tossed up whether to keep Newnes or not. I haven't seen Golby play this season, so have no idea. Given Newnes is a lower pick, I can see the value but I don't think I can find space for Macaffer.

Looks like I'm in need of talls. Especially tall backs, aye?

Haynes can play tall but you'd be well served getting at least another KPD.

Ted Richards hopefully fills a void in the team.
