How do you know it won't discriminate against you even more?

  2. Cribbage RG Cribb

    Indeed.

ITC is a great piece of software and I doubt I'll be able to make a cricket match engine that's much/any better, but making my own will give me greater control over how I want it to work, and really make simming games a lot easier for me with hard-coded automated functions.

I'll probably release both the OD sim and the new FC sim to the public when they're done. But we've still got another season and a half of ITC to go. :p

What do you gain out of this, may I ask?

  4. MrPrez CM Dyer

I wouldn't do it, in truth. Mostly because it'd encourage other...happenings.

  5. Cribbage RG Cribb

Well, advertising. If it proves popular we'll have a bunch of people opening up software with CricSim logos and links all over it. Can't be a bad thing.

Awesome news. Would you release it for free? It could become quite popular that a small fee to buy it would mean your being rewarded for all your hard work.

  7. Skippos SM Morgan

    Ah, gun.

tbf nobody's going to really pay for a cricket simulator. Like some would but it'd be such a small amount of people who really cares, especially when it doesn't double up as a game.

He'd probably get more money out of people getting it for free, joining up to CS and clicking the advertisements around the place here.

  9. Cribbage RG Cribb

    Well, ITC isn't free.

The difficulty though is in stopping one person just buying it and then distributing it everywhere. I wouldn't have the first clue how to code in a decent anti-piracy mechanism, so I'd probably just release the thing for free.

  10. Skippos SM Morgan

Yeah but that's got a bit of a 'game' aspect to it too yeah? Or at least seems to be marketed that way?

Doubt it's made much money over 10 years anyway. Probably made more from ads on the site.

  11. Cribbage RG Cribb

    It's straight up just a sim. :p

I do actually plan on releasing the rugby league simulator for free too, however I'm not keen on people starting up competing comps to CSRL and CPL Rugby so the player and team databases will not be editable. Unsure what teams to actually include in the database for it given I'd no doubt get licensing-owned if I released it with proper NRL sides but I'll figure something out to let people play around with the sim.

  13. Furball G Furball

The 'game' aspect of ITC comes from sites like CricSim using it to simulate their own competitions.

  14. Skippos SM Morgan

Just change the names a little so it's Cameron Smyth and the like. Professional games seem to get away with it :p

  15. Cribbage RG Cribb

Yeah, player names are easy enough, but who would he play for?

    Geelong Rain?

  16. Skippos SM Morgan

    Melbourne Thunder or something

  17. Furball G Furball

Surely it's the Storm, Knights, Dragons etc part of the names that identify them as NRL sides? So you could have Paul Gallon playing for Cronulla. Surely the NRL don't hold a license for a Sydney suburb?

  18. Mousey AJ Son

Yeah, didn't see that coming given previous discussions on it.

Get around the Geelong Rain :toot:

  19. morgieb MC Burridge

    Melbourne Drizzle.

  20. stupersteve03 SJ Cambridge

    The Melbourne Strom of course,
