Tom Delonge piles in to try to secure the turnover. Miokovic is there in support but seems unclear as to what he’s supposed to do. In the meantime, the ball comes clear for Pilgrim. Pilgrim passes to Denton on the pick and go, and he’s made a thundering drive at the line. He’s brought down on the Vikings try line.

Ikram with his first attempt at a conversion in premier grade rugby, and it’s a tough one from out on the touchline. It looks to be sailing wide, and just misses as the ball curves round.

Sucker punch from the Vikings here. Delonge with a great line out throw on the half way line to Mike Martyn. Perry is prepared for it, and a quick pass from Martyn under no pressure hits its target. Perry has a massive gap to scythe through and a furious Son can’t prevent the try. Great move, Vikings.

Deep into Vikings territory, Pilgrim opts to kick for touch. He’s hit that too well and that rolls over the try line where Jacobs can dot down for a 22m dropout. Pilgrim having to play an unfamiliar role here, and it shows in some of his kicking options.

All the pressure on the Vikings at the moment. Twice the Hurricanes get within 5 metres of their try line only to commit elementary handling errors and allow the Vikings to scrum down and clear their lines. Can the Vikings continue to soak up this pressure?

Vikings try to play the ball out from 20m into their own territory after winning a line out steal.

However, Henry Marshall is nailed by League Lover and James Torres secures the turnover and the Hurricanes are back on the attack.

The ball goes out wide to Taylor who jinks around Steve Cambridge. Great movement from Taylor. He’s broken the defensive line! He skips over a tackle from Jacobs and he’s through. That try’s a result of the sustained pressure the Canes have put the Vikings defence under.

Ikram misses an easier conversion opportunity than his first.

The restart is followed by a spot of arm wrestling on the half way line. However, with the Vikings on the attack, a loose pass from Theo Miokovic is intercepted by Gareth Weaver. No one’s at home at the back and after an easy run of 55m, he spots down under the posts.

Ikram easily converts to get on the scoreboard.

A massive ruck forms at Theo Miokovic is pinned by Kim Glensor. Jason Denton slams into the ruck. The ref’s whistle blows. Miokovic not releasing the ball – that’s a fair call. Penalty to the Canes. From 22m out, Ikram will go for the goal.

It’s fairly straight, but the youngster is under some pressure. The ball sails over. Good kick.

Oh, what’s this. Denton looks in some distress. The physio runs on. Looks like a neck injury. He has to be stretchered off, but hopefully that’s only a precaution.

Half time results with the Canes in a 7 – 20 lead. Hebditch will take to the field in the 2nd half to replace Denton.
