Exactly. Pretty poor of England to select him to be honest. He's Kiwi through and through, has lived in the UK for all of five minutes and has no real links with the place other than some administrative passport links. Worse selection than any of the Yarpies playing for the England cricket team, as at least they did their time.
Very impersonal way of saying hes of recent English herritage Having English blood is probably better than someone with absolutley 0 ties and just lived here a couple of years
They used to just take the player's word for it, e.g, Shane Howarth and Grannygate. Cracks me up how these useless players like Waldrom and Riki Flutey with no hope of getting a black jersey, and who even struggle to get Super 14/15 contracts, get thrown a white jersey as soon as they step off the plane at Heathrow.
Flutey is average yeah. I think Waldrom is a good player though. He obviously isn't as good as a Read etc but he would be better than 90% of the players they have over there.
Always preferred Thomas myself, but he was one of those plethora of non-Wellingtonians who couldn't get a gig at the Hurricanes. Or at least not a regular gig. Even after he moved to Wellington. Either way, it still ridiculous that he can play for England. At least the number of Kiwis playing for England means the English press can't whine any more about how the All Blacks take advantage of the Pacific Islands.
Its quite funny that when he did start playing for Canterbury he shined and i mean shined, his running game was immense. He loved open play and space to run and the fact he reeked havoc that season. Why did he end up leaving? I can't remember why.
I'm pretty sure he left NZ as he didn't have a shit-show chance of playing International Rugby, so he decided to chase the £. Maybe in hindsight, he knew all along that he'd be in with a shout of a World Cup place as well?
In fairness, Waldrom didn't just step off a plane and get into the England squad. Had he not been as dominant as he was in the English leagues I doubt he'd have made the 45 man squad. He may still not make the team to go to NZ.
Speaking of people who stepped off a plane and was immediately given a place in the national team, how about that Sonny Bill Williams? :ninja:
