...and the first game was approaching us, what would your team be? Try to completely wipe past representative (including test) games from your mind.

Qld Team would look somewhat the same. Tate would possibly miss out and Thaiday too. Qld would go four props so I reckon Hannant would be starting. Myles would probably be benched and McGuire may get a look-in. Good question ill have to give it more thought though.

    Can I pick Jamie Lyon?

  4. Harry Sack SB Slippy

I think so. If Origin never existed he would never have spat the dummy.

    Yeah.

 if Origin hadn't existed then Pearce should be in the team.

NSW could actually have an abortion of a team if previous Origin experiences were ignored.

You'd struggle to put a case for ommiting Hoffman or Pearce. You'd also have a strong case for playing Hayne on the wing and Gidley wouldn't be a reasonable option as a bench hooker.

Haynes hasn't played wing in ages for parramatta? How does Gids not make a case?

For Hayne, I don't think you need to have played on the wing recently to go back there. If you ignore his Origin performances and just look back to his play at the beginning of his career then Hayne still easily makes the team ahead of wingers like McManus, Ferguson or Merritt imo.

As for Gidley, the only reason he gets hyped as a good bench hooker is because he has proven that by his play for NSW. He has never played that role for Newcastle and over the course of his entire career he has barely played any dummy half, other than occasional spurts here and there. I'm sure some would claim otherwise but I don't think you can make a good argument for Gidley's inclusion that doesn't start and end with his play for NSW in 2010 and 2011.

Yeah indeed but what he offers at fullback would still trump that for me. He'd be both first fullback picked and first winger picked and I'd pick him at fullback.

I'd definitely pick Pearce and the likes of Hoffman and Creagh would be serious options for the side. Bird would probably be benched with one of them starting.

you wouldn't know the importance of a bench dummy half so you wouldn't consider someone like Kurt gidley. I would probably consider McManus with Hayne or Stewart on the bench. gallen would be meh. a good stats nrl player who I hated and wouldn't have ever played prop.

Yow Yeh on the wing is another head scratcher. Surely QLD have a better winger than a guy who started running again a month ago?
