AFL free agency:

  1. is terrible, if I could I'd get rid of it

    21.4%
  2. is okay, but I'd like to see it minimised a bit

    14.3%
  3. is good, keep it as is

    28.6%
  4. is great, I'd love to see it expanded upon

    35.7%

Not really. There have been cases of players retiring and then 1 month later coming out of retirement and nominating for the PSD though (Mal Michael esp. was dodgy. Ben Hudson too. Cornes/Brogan/Power with GWS)

The latter three the afl demanding compo for though iirc.

    Players threaten it though.

Sat out a year, was paid for it by the 'roos and then the crows gave up like pick 3 and more for him :fp:

The Mal Michael deal was dodgy as fuck.

I like free agency tbh. If you're off-contract, they really aren't your player anymore, and is allowed to leave.

I like it, it's good for the game. Teams can get what they need when they need it and not have to trade. Also the blokes that want to stay loyal will stay loyal

It's okay, not a fan of it though.

Losing players for nothing is fucking gay.

I had no idea that's how the AFL system works. Strikes me as stupid, If a cunt was passed up in draft and is kicking 12 goals week in, week out in the VFL he should be given a contract if a club wants him.

I love the draft system and how loyal players are to their clubs in AFL, but I really don't think being able to sign players no body else wants would effect that in any way. It essentially means there could be AFL quality players that are wanted buy AFL clubs playing park footy. Stupid.

Similar thing happened to Gaz at the dogs, played 8 games and a 9th meant a 45k bonus or something so he got dropped.

Also on skippos point about the long contract thing, clubs would pre prepared to take that risk to ensure they get the player. If you say 'Listen we really want you, you're a top player and you obviously want to stay, but we're only offering a two year deal.' some other club is going to more than likely swoop in and offer 4-5 years.

Free Agency is the way to go >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Draft system imo. As a player it's a deadset restriction of trade afaic. You don't see the best 100 18 year old accountants forced to ply their trade in a location/for a business completely outof their control for example.

The draft is here to stay, that's not debatable. It's better this way too.

Free agency isn't in opposition to the draft, it's in conjunction.

I know it will never change, I was just providing my opinion of it. Seriously though why didn't the AFLPA take them to court like Tezza hill did when it was created?

Whatever is best for the players.

    Clubs can be ruthless.

Love the draft, helps keep teams equal.

well i love how players stick with the 1 team through loyalty, so i am not a huge fan of t tbh, but i can see if players who are not getting a game leave for more opportunity to play elsewhere, we should look to have a mni draft where clubs can recruit mature age rookies either from the VFL/WAFL/SANFL etc as well
