RG Cribb Cup - England vs. Victoria

A horror week of Cribb Cup tennis for Alistair Son has finished with another final set fade-out, as Ezequiel Ames secured a tie that was ultimately won by England 4-1.

Despite losses in the first singles rubber and the doubles, Son was still preferred to Nigel Scott or Shane Masters for the all-important fourth tie, with Victoria coming in behind 1-2.

But in an incredibly tight start, Son and Ames served brilliantly under pressure as there was only two games between them in the first three sets. Ahead two-sets-to-one, Ames looked the goods in the fourth as he raced to a 3-0 lead, before being reigned in by Son who finally looked like he had the belief.

In a wonderful tiebreaker, Son took the match to a deciding fifth set as he put a bagel on a frustrated Ames with some classic attacking tennis.

But then the wheels fell off, and Son was, yet again, on the end of a love set, as Ames roared to a 7-5, 4-6, 6-4, 6-7(0), 6-0 victory against a dispirited Son. It meant that Son's record in the final set of a match this week was a dire 0-18.

In the fifth and final rubber, Eddie Morris overcame a spirited performance from Shane Masters to secure a 4-1 win for England 6-4, 2-6, 6-1.

RG Cribb Cup - Asia vs. New South Wales

Asia have romped to the semi-finals of the RG Cribb Cup with a dominant 5-0 win over New South Wales in Lahore.

In front of a small crowd, Clay Evans started the day with a come-from-behind 3-6, 7-5, 7-5 win over a spirited Morgan Burridge - coming from a break down in the third set.

In the other fixture, Ritwick Chowdhuri completed the whitewash with a 6-0, 7-6(4) win over an uninspired Luka Popovic.

Out of interest, how are NZ seeded ahead of us?

The Provinces are basically a two-man team at the moment. NZ have had more success in the doubles, and have had a number of players consistently making it to the final stages of the singles.

From the result, it seems like I tried hard in the 2nd set to make the match interesting. But I failed!
