Also thought about Saxena but made no sense for me after picking Moeen.

He was a 5th round pick for me in 2012 CWPL (Ashwin and Jadeja were 6th and 8th lol)

Ha, looking back on early drafts there were some guns picked rather late. IIRC Philander was like Round 7 in the 2010/11 CPL despite being close to (or in) the World CPL XI at the time.

CPL thought Philander was already the second best bowler in the world before he even debuted.

The algorithm wasn't as advanced as it is now though; I wonder what results applying the current system to the time back then would bring. He'd probably still be top 20 but maybe not second.

Yeah it'd be insane if a batsman or bowler got into the top 5 or 6 in current cpl before they debuted.

I mean I don't disagree that it was easy to get a good bowling average in those years, but there's only so much you can do to standardise someone out of averaging 12. He still was the leading wicket-taker and at the best average both years. Even if you add 20 to that average that's still handy for a pick this late.

Dan picked him in the equivalent of Round 6 last time, lol. This is obviously way more reasonable :p

  7. morgieb MC Burridge

Yeah he'd pretty much have to be averaging 60+ or <20 in a good domestic competition (i.e. Aus/SA/NZ) over about 3 years to even go close. And there's no way a selector would ignore those figures.

There's only one uncapped player in the top 50 bats (and he's only really uncapped because of ICC rules) and no uncapped players in the top 40 bowlers atm.

    But yes fair point.

What does Conway average over the last three seasons? About 80?

  11. Cabinet96 OTN Wood

What's the highest batting/bowling rank for a player still yet to be picked?

  12. morgieb MC Burridge

Yes. Sample size not that great though. Also a shitload of not outs surprisingly.

  13. Cribbage RG Cribb

Batsman is 90th, bowler is 69th.

I have a bit of a hunch about who said 69th bowler might be. Would never pick him myself as I absolutely despise the bloke though

  17. Dan DB Wayne

What's your problem with Brendan Nash?

  18. Cribbage RG Cribb

Haha Athlai recently learned that there's a bowler with decent figures who you despise, so I suspect he may enjoy this post.

Thankfully that bloke retired last season or he probably would've been a fair bit higher (he is not the #69). ACAB.

The question is, which Mohammed Nawaz?
