I love this stage of the draft. People are caught between trying to pick players who might either be awesome or terrible depending on exactly how thing work, and players who are just reliable and decent backups. And even though the exact reason for players being risky/reliable is obviously different, I think we'd get the same sort of conundrum if this was real life too. In two or three rounds we'll probably start getting some people take the piss which is less fun, until the simming starts anyway.
ES was planning an early snipe at Sandeep earlier on too. After picking two spinners in the first three rounds he was gonna put it on the back burner, but he really rated him.
Yep. I get the talent etc but such a lack of FC and quality ODI games to count on, hope you give him a couple of games to see how he goes.
I know he has a reputation of being a shunt, but surely an average of high 40's in the last 4 seasons should make him useful? Didn't do that badly in the ODI's he played either.
There are better batsmen still available in the SA domestic scene imo, let alone elsewhere. He's not useful, and his bowling may offer a little extra, but he just doesn't feel good enough. TBF I hate him from his ODI run. And I didn't know his numbers were that good. But even so there are reasons he sits far back in the Test batting pecking order.
Actually, I must be missing something, as this seems to be the first season in 3 or 4 that he even features on the run charts for the Sunfoil Series.
2017/18 his average was great but he didn't play that many games. Other two seasons he was kind of poor but his combined average over those 4 seasons still remains solid. Those two seasons are why I was apprehensive about picking him. Then again this round has had a few bats with pretty average records be picked.
I've thought about this more and he plays for the Titans, which combined with ODI cricket means he has probably struggled to actually make the team in the past few years. Which in itself is a good indication of his FC value. The Titans tend to have a pretty packed squad meaning quality players often struggle to make the team. His record shows he is good, but there are also a number of other quality players in their squad who may be prioritised. Take this season's stats out of his record over the pat four years and I'm sure you'll find it quite interesting (haven't got those stats myself but I can imagine). I don't think he's a proper shunt but I do think there are a number of batsmen who offer a much greater upside. Although depending on how this season's runs are waited, he could yet end up being sneaky useful.
Hey gents, I'm the ES/Dhokchau/ES replacement. If anyone wants an opener I have them by the metric ton
