Confederations Cup thread (soccer)

    The 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup starts this weekend on Sunday the 14th and ends on the 28th of June.

    It's basically like a curtain raiser to the World Cup mid next year.

    IIRC, SBS will televise it but I can't remember if they'll televise all the games and if they'll all be live. Someone to clarify this.

    The teams involved are the Champions of each continent, the World Cup winners and the hosts.

    These are the groups:

    GROUP A
    South Africa - hosts
    Iraq - Asian champions
    New Zealand - Oceanian champions
    Spain - European champions

    GROUP B
    USA - North American champions
    Italy - World champions
    Brazil - South American champions
    Egypt - African champions

    Discuss.

    Updates will be posted as the tournament progresses.

    with finals being like this
    1st in GA vs 1st in GB
    2nd in GA vs 3rd in GA

    Nah Group B would have no interest if it was like that.

    Just have it the way it is now ... seeded groups with the top two going through. Simple.

    LOL, it's nothing really to be proud of ITBT. You guys just had to defeat minnows like Vanuatu, New Caledonia, Solomon Islands, etc to become champs of Oceania.

    Yeah that's right. NZ are probably the worst time in this Confederations Cup (no offence) but TBF you're tenfold better than all the shitty island nations you had to play to get there. :p

    lost 4-3 and had the lead 3 times

    First game (South Africa v Iraq) starts in an hour and is live in SBS.

    Spain v New Zealand is on at 4am tomorrow morning.

    I'm going to watch the Iraq game because they play some good football at times, but I cbf staying up for New Zealand.

    Tomorrow night's matches are waaay better. Brazil v Egypt and Italy v USA. Some top games.
