Aboriginals vs Irish

    Nah, that's my issue too.

    Partly yes.
Because as I said, stopping players from playing for Australia just because they are the wrong race is extremely offensive and racism at its finest.

The main problem though is this fucked up theory that equality means giving preferential treatment to minorities. Skip touched on it earlier.
It's like the pain in the area feminist who demands equality but still wants guys to pay the bill and open doors for her.
The double standards when it come to aboriginals in this country is completely fucked.
And if you try to call someone out on it you get slammed for being a racist or a bigot.

Shit like this is just messed up
Why do we need to send an indigenous team?
What purpose does it serve other than to further seperate the groups that were apparently trying to make equal?

Once you start calling them the Indigenous All-Stars instead of Australia when they're representing the country it becomes racist.

  4. Cribbage RG Cribb

The fact that they're representing the country is racist in itself. They shouldn't be.

  5. Tartmaster AJ James

    This ffs
They're not representing the country, they're representing their culture, their race. Not the fucking country.

  6. Dirk Diggler DM Diggler

Why shouldn't they? The AFL want to increase the recognition of what the Aboriginal people have contributed to the game by allowing an Indigenous side to represent the country.

  7. Dirk Diggler DM Diggler

Their race and culture is apart of this country. It's not recognized nearly enough in society.

  8. Tartmaster AJ James

    Because that's fucking discrimination.
    Like pretty much dictionary definition

  9. Mousey AJ Son

Well sending an Indigenous team was supposed to solve two problems:
    1. The Indigenous All-Stars wanting to play together
    2. The series needing big and senior names to play to reinvoke some passion

Not that these things have happened

In the end, playing for Australia isn't a massive deal for us, it's not the top level of our game. These guys were campaigning for it and (seemingly) cared more and were willing to commit. Unfortunately they haven't delivered so far - and I reckon the AFL wouldn't be pleased with that.

For Aussie Rules footballers its not an honour bestowed upon those worth, but rather merely an opportunity for a bit fun, and the All-Stars were promising to make it more than that. That was better than scrapping the series altogether.

That probably doesn't justify it to you, who follows a game where playing for your country means something. I agree that it'd be better if the team was called the All-Stars.

If you sent Hawthorn over to represent the country rather than Hawthorn... then yep.

And yeah on what Mousey said, the AFL would be fuming. These guys campaigned to play and most didn't end up playing. Fair enough a couple blokes like MJ and Goodes had injuries but poor form from the rest.

If they ever get to play again the AFL should force more of the big name players to play.

  12. MatthewJay TA Miokovic

That's sort of my point though. We haven't sent over our best team in years. I remember Ablett wanted to play a couple years back but they didn't pick him.

May as well make the series more interesting by having specific teams represent Australia each year. Coons one year, Victorians the next etc

  13. Tartmaster AJ James

    1. Who gives a fuck if they wanted to play with each other.
You know who else probably wanted to play this series, white dudes.
So this is... Preferential treat to aboriginals. Shock horror.

    2. The series needs big names, so the solution is massively cut the player pool you're selecting from?
Would that not make less big name available?

It doesn't matter how highly looked upon international rules is, it boils down to the fact that they're is players who wanted and deserved to be on that tour who aren't because of their race and because of a publicity stunt by the AFL

this series has died in the ass, bring back the SOO

Haven't heard of any players having a fit over not being selected... It's only the redneck supporters.

I think the idea was that more of the Aboriginals would've made themselves available if they got to play together. That's always been the argument; that they were effectively selecting the best side they possibly could by restricting the eligibility criteria. It didn't work though. Not that it wouldn't have been racist if it did anyway - can you just imagine the South African Cricket Board saying it planned to only select from the white population in order to encourage British passport holders to stay in the country and therefore improve the quality of the side? I mean, it'd probably even work.. but it'd be racist.

Sending over the Aboriginal Allstars to to play against Ireland is a little bit racist regardless of what you call them IMO because you're still selecting a team based purely on race. But it's not really a big deal if that's the gimmick of the side and that's the best way to get players available, get people interested in the game etc. What is a big deal is calling the side Australia and saying they represent the country. That's despicable. They don't represent the country; they represent their race.

Tart, which players are you talking about? i have not heard of players kicking up a stink of not being selected to go to Ireland

  18. Tartmaster AJ James

Look I'm not gonna pretend to know much about the series and shit.
But I would find it very hard to believe there's no players out there who feel a bit pissed that they didn't get to go.

Not referring to anyone in particular,
    Just this
