    That's exactly what Mathews said. I find that very hard to believe and Richardson, who was down on the ground, said there was definitely a wind from left to right. I mean, mate, you could see the Hawthorn captain test the wind pre-toss, and deliberately choose to head towards the city because of it. I'm no AFL fan but it does seem to me curious that the team running with the supposed wind, if we agree to call it that, won all four quarters, and handsomely at that. There were 125 points kicked down the city end to 47 at the other. That seems very peculiar to me. But again, I'm no AFL fan so perhaps it is just coincidence. I just can't imagine it happening "into the wind," as they say, in the same scenario.

    Yeah there's a wind there - but as I said, it's never a major effect. I'd expect maybe 4 goals over the course of the game more with the wind than against it - if that. Today wasn't an accurate representation of the effect of the wind on football - if it even was the wind that caused it.

    tbf there are plenty of people who've just come and got around sydney when really the only poster who actually has given a shit about them in the past (on here) is morgie.

    I don't really have an issue with it as the more people interested in the great game - the better, but I see what harps is saying.

    it adds if someone kicks a '50 metre without wind kick' it'll go 55 with and 45 without. Given modern afl is a lot of running and handballing there's not as much room for the wind to effect a change in the game. it might mean it takes a kick longer to get to your 50 but yeah - it's a goal or three a half difference, tops.
