William Hopoate



41 NRL games and 2 Origin appearances have spanned 5 years for the 22 year old. Left the game for his religious mission in his absolute prime as an athlete and looked like he could be anything. Much of that potential was based around his physical attributes as much as his nose for the game. After 2 years off he ran out for Parramatta as a marquee outside back and besides 8 weeks or so of solid form looked off the pace and his form deteriorated as the season went on. 2 years out of the game had worryingly slowed him down and in a couple of floggings was given an absolute bath at times. Played one origin match as he'd succeeded there before and didn't look too out of place.

Now Hayne is gone much more is expected from him, he'll well and truly be in the spotlight at the back, there'll be no hiding. His speed and acceleration will be under the microscope and if things don't go to plan he'll have Reece Robinson snapping at his heels for the fullback gig.

A mediocre season will hurt Parramatta and place a huge question mark over where Hopoate's career is headed.

Yeah, so has everyone if you read the articles. They've all 'had the hardest off season yet' in 2015.

 

Especially Benji Marshall and Dave Taylor* they get a shout out every year about how fit and happy they are.
