    I doubted them at the start of the year and I’m not one to change my mind on a team based on early season form, but St George Illawarra are officially a major contender in my books. In fact, I’d almost go as far to say that they are my favourites to win the premiership at this point.

    I thought they were before the season began and was mad because Bennett will probably receive alot more credit than he deserves.

    They already had a field of players that just needed the time and experience before they fired. They had a very young and inexperienced side last year and were always going to be much better this year round. The combination of the experienced players he has brought over has gelled perfectly, but they were always going to go well.

    Their 2008 team really looks better than their 2009 team on paper though, IMO. Sure, their younger players have more experience this year, but if you look at their ins and outs, and where they finished last year, there's no way you'd expect a rapid improvement.

    Bennett certainly has to be given credit for backing Weyman to perform and moving Scott (then Creagh when Cooper went down) out wide rather than just playing someone like Stanley.

    No doubt he's definitely done good things... I can just see at the end of the season Bennett being touted as the champion, when they were never exactly a hopeless team to begin with.

    I tend to do that in general TBH. I naturally think "gun" and then realise it's not suited to anything other than posting on CricSim or CricketWeb and replace it with "awesome". I end up with too many awesomes.
