David King just said he expects John Worsfold to shake hands and part company with West Coast at the end of the year.
The only difference being, you know, that Ayres wants a job in the AFL. But hey, keep using examples that have nothing to do with the discussion. They really help your argument. OK
Because people keep going on about ridiculous notions of people like Paul Roos & Gary Ayers returning as the white knight to save the Melbourne Football Club.
Currently coaches a team in premiership contention. Theo thinks he's going to give it up to coach Melbourne.
No, you are fundamentally misrepresenting what people are saying. No one is calling Gary Ayres the "white knight" coming to rescue Melbourne. You are saying that Ayres wouldn't accept an offer to coach Melbourne, and your reason is that he hasn't coached a club in eight years and wouldn't stoop as low as coaching Melbourne. That argument might hold true for a Parkin or a Roos, who are coaches that don't need to come out of retirement and probably don't want to risk a legacy on somewhere like Melbourne. Gary Ayres is not near that callibre of coach, and so the same considerations don't really apply. You know, maybe he would turn down a job opportunity at the Melbourne Football Club. But to ridicule suggestions that he would accept a job there - probably his last chance to coach at league level - is an indication that you are either baiting for the sake of baiting, or aren't very bright. But I'm sure you can find a funny picture to respond to this post with.
And, in all likelihood, would have accepted the job. But yeah, would never accept a job at Melbourne.
Yeah I don't understand where Paul's getting at. For one Ayres would be on like 80K p/y in the VFL and he'd be on 400K p/y in the AFL.
For two, There's a hundred AFL assistants in the system and more current AFL coaches like Brett Ratten who would be before him? Matthew Knights, current coach of the Geelong 2012 VFL premiers, would make a better choice of coach, but it doesn't mean he would take it just because Melbourne may make a mythical offer for the head coach role.
You are continually mixing up the issues of (1) whether Ayres would accept a job at Melbourne and (2) whether he'd be the right man for Melbourne. No one is disputing that (2) is very questionable. The issue is the rubbish you are sprouting about (1).
