A win for the Toon against Stoke tonight and we go into 3rd spot. It will be a tough game away from home, and I would be happy with a draw and then hammer Everton at home on Saturday.
Terry's never been the best central defender at his club, never mind one of the best in the world. Lampard and Scholes were never utilised by England the way they were for their club sides, hence their lack of success. Rooney's never been close to being one of the best strikers in the world either.
He was amongst the best the year United won the CL with Ronaldo and Co.(2008) and should be amongst the best strikers since then too, except for some periods of blip.
Yes he should. Rooney is one of England's only world class players. The fact that if he doesn't score, people get frustrated by him, says everything tbh.
Rooney isn't exactly an outstanding out and out goalscorer though he's only had 1 outstanding goalscoring season IMO, he's more of a rounded striker, he'll score some and set as many up, he'd be better with a pure goalscorer next to him IMO
Best post I've seen Nova make. Defs AWTA. Which is why I loveee seeing Chica next to him who just knows how to find the back of the net from anywhere. If only we had a dominant midfield...
For me Rooney would make the elite bracket of strikers but I do feel the word 'world class' is thrown around too much in football. I wouldn't say JT as ever been world class either, just a very good defender. If I was doing a world 11 only Ashley Cole would make it from England. At a push, maybe Rooney but I can think of a couple of better strikers I'd rather have in my starting 11.
Difficult to say really, people will have different definitions of the term world class. But for me, it's someone that is in the elite bracket of players. Of course you've got players like Messi and Ronaldo who are just unbelievable players but then you've got another level of players like Xavi, Iniesta, Rooney, Cole etc who I would class as world class. I think what sets players apart for being world class and very good is decision making and it's as simple as that for me. How often do we see these fantastic players make the correct decision? Plus I think you'll find more world class midfielders and strikers over defenders so it's hard to just put them in a number bracket. There is not many world class full backs in football nowadays but plenty of creating midfielders who decision making is just super. I've said before on here that I would class Silva as the best player in the Premiership at the moment (my opinion) but would struggle to get him in a world 11
Oh yeah definitely, world class is a term that gets thrown around a lot, but I think Rooney deserves that sort of title. To me, there isn't much difference between the elite bracket and world class players. Also, Ashley Cole is so good.
