One of the players is in but can't play until after the 5th. I wasn't actually planning to start until at least the 3rd, so we'll go with the 5th. We can work out characters in the meantime for those who are here.
The system we will be using is a modified SPECIAL system from the Fallout series. I think it's a pretty good system that is well suited to a modern/near post-apocalyptic setting. As such there will be a few different aspects to the mechanics surrounding characters. Primary statistics, derived statistics, skills, perks and traits. Primary statistics are Strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility and Luck, making up the acronym SPECIAL. These do nothing on their own, but are used to determine derived statistics and modify skills. At this stage I haven't decided if I want to have primary statistic requirements on perks and traits. Derived statistics are things like hit points and critical chance. These are mostly determined by primary statistics, but some perks and traits may affect them as well. Perks are bonuses to various aspects of your life in the post-apocalyptic world filled with zombies. Perks will be obtained as you gain levels. Traits are like perks, but the advantages granted by them will be greater. As a drawback, they all have penalties. Unlike perks, traits are selected at the beginning and cannot be changed.
