    What is it?

    I'll give it a crack:

B: Michael Hibberd - Eric Mackenzie - Michael Johnson
HB: Kade Simpson - Cale Hooker - Shaun Burgoyne
C: Steve Johnson - Scott Pendlebury - Dayne Beams
HF: Robbie Gray - Nick Riewoldt - Luke Parker
F: Luke Breust - Tom Hawkins - Jay Schulz
R: Aaron Sandilands - Josh Kennedy - Gary Ablett
Int: Tom Rockliff - Joel Selwood - Nathan Fyfe - Travis Boak

Will do mine later. Am going to actually try and name a side with 6 defenders, 6 forwards and 5 mids + a ruck instead of 10 midfielders in flanks and pockets though.

  3. Skippos SM Morgan

    FB: S. Burgoyne - D. Talia - J. Trengove
    HB: B. Smith - C. Hooker - N. Malceski
    C: T. Rockliff - S. Pendlebury - D. Beams
    HF: L. Parker - N. Riewoldt - R. Gray
    FF: B. Harvey - T. Hawkins - L. Breust
    R: A. Sandilands - J. Kennedy - G. Ablett
    IC: S. Johnson - J. Selwood - N. Dal Santo - T. Boak

    - Full forward very hard for mine. Could have been Hawk, Gunston, Schulz...any number of names putting their hand up
    - I like playing 3 KPDs as it's necessary in the modern game. Trengove/Carlile 3rd and 4th in my KPD rankings atm and it's tight between them for that spot. Grundy/MacKenzie 5th & 6th.
    - Hibberd the SD who'd come in if I only played 2 KPDs
    - Breust the least safe SF for mine, Elliott would be there 3 weeks ago but he's fallen away too much
    - Bench mids very tough. Fyfe, Ebert, Dangerfield, Watson, Liberatore, Jones, Prestia, Swallow and even Gibbs all very close.

Dal Santo is not an all australian anything

  5. Youngman JE Harding

    Boom and Dal :toot:

  6. Skippos SM Morgan

I'm not a Dal Santo fan and a week or two ago his spot was far more secure in my side but he's been really excellent this year.

  7. Skippos SM Morgan

Boomer's my 2nd forward picked after Gray. Been awesome this year

Matthew Lloyd still has Langdon in his I think.

As someone who has never watched a full game of AFL that wasn't a Brisbane Lions grand final. Shouldn't guys like Franklin, Goodes and Brown be in these sides?

  11. Skippos SM Morgan

It's not about the 'best players in the afl' it's about the best players thus far this season. Franklin hasn't had a great season so far, Goodes missed the first half of it (and he's 34 or something now, he's not really good anymore) and Brown's so old and his body's so cooked he can't jump more than 10cm off the ground :P

So it's all done on form? No reputation taken into account?

  13. Skippos SM Morgan

might be a little short sighted to call a 22 round season 'form' - if you can maintain being elite among your peers for a whole season it's probably just ability and skill, not form. That said those with good reputations built those reputations based on good performance in the past and made the team in the past as a result. Brown made it twice, Goodes and Franklin four times. Ablett jr's made it 7 times.

but yeah, it's not based on reputation but performance over the full season

I'm sure if you picked an All-Australian side to go out and play it'd be different but yeah since it's a theoretical side reputation and previous years aren't counted.

  15. El Nino J Torres

Yeah if there was actually going to be a game played, the side would be picked totally differently.

    Good idea for a thread

If it's at least vaguely form based, hasn't Nick Riewoldt had a pretty mediocre year? The couple of St Kilda games I've watched, he's been completely anonymous. Surprised there's no one better.

Been proper gash the last six weeks but his first 5 weeks were exceptional (averaged 20.2 touches, 11.2 marks and 3.4 goals over that period)

and when I say he's been proper gash the last 5 weeks he's still popped up for 14 goals in those 6 weeks (averaging 12.8 touches, 6.3 marks and 2.3 goals a week over that period which is still pretty reasonable, just not near as effective up the ground as normal)

All since he came to Wellington. He barely touched the ball here.

EDIT: By which I mean he was proper, proper gash in Wellington. Guessing his stats in that game were poor by any measure, though I'm sure someone'll prove me wrong. ;)

Yeah I don't think Nick Riewoldt will make the AA side as he'll fade a fair bit later in the year with the Saints up against better teams. Dal Santo zero chance of making it too.
