    Nah. He wasn't actually comparing their batting - he was just saying they were all good enough to bat 8 without any problems. He said they were all competent; the level of said competence was not in question.

    Swann's batting is definitely better than Harbhajan's, Warne's and Kumble's, but he wasn't trying to say otherwise.. merely that they were all good enough to bat 8 and that the rest were better bowlers.

    Classic straw man stuff, this is.

    You're right...misunderstanding. Misread "more than competent" as "more competent" i.e. better bat than Swanny.

    Julian was right, I got the wrong end of the stick. Having said that, I think the Turbanator is competent at 8, but not much more.

    Yeah, look, I love Swanny - in fact, he's in my avatar on CricketWeb at the moment - but there's no denying it was a questionable first round pick considering who else was available.

    Swann will go well in this, but he shouldn't be anyone's best player.. and your first-round pick should be exactly that. Matt Prior's in the same boat.

    Was just going to say, I'm not really in a position to comment on first round picks. I feel vindicated by Heef though. Not my best player, but he could be my most important in a team context.
