  1. Rocks DN Boland

    Costing us the game ftl

  2. Gazza GJ Weaver

You've won us the game more often than not though

How much control do you have on who takes how many shots?

  4. Old Mate M Perry

    I feel disgraced and hollow.

  5. Gazza GJ Weaver

Guess I can change it through the scoring options

I'm just thinking, cut down a bit on Boland's shots and spread them out. You've got guys in the front court who can score and Boland in the backcourt. See if you can run plays for both. Out of the starters, I see 52 shots from 1 and 2 guard positions out of 98 total shots. That's 3 guys taking 53% of the shots. If I include Torres in there who probably plays at the 2 spot at times, that's 65%. I'm not saying change it up completely, but you have decent scorers in the front court who on most nights will give you good efficiency, maybe use them more often?

Boland is a high volume scorer and probably the only good scoring option in the backcourt, yet our offense seems to be reliant on backcourt scoring. There's something wrong there.

    So what would you suggest??

Let me followup your question with another question. I know Weaver is steady, but how reliable is Oz? If he's a decent post scorer as well, maybe run more scoring plays for them. If not, at least increase Weaver's shots. Is having a good center a commodity in this league? If so, Weaver is a matchup nightmare on most nights, use that to your advantage.

I'm thinking you can at least have that as your backup plan for when a) Boland is up against someone really good and b) it's just not his night. So if Boland is shooting under 50%, decrease his usage and get the bigs involved. Boland is still your premiere scorer, but where did the Knicks end up relying on Carmelo? You've gotta have a good plan B, and unlike the Knicks, you have good plan B options.

Center is the deepest position defensively, Loads of good players.

Also asking Boland to average 50% is rough. Most elite guards in the nba average 45 ish

And this is why you are on the Mo's. Top stuff. I'll sort out a lineup after work

Ok, so the fact that Weaver still seems to be efficient means he's a great scorer? If so, then even more the reason to think he's under utilized. Can we tell if Boland is more of a shooter or slasher? If he's slashing then it'd be interesting to know if either Weaver or Oz have a decent midrange game.

I'm not saying though that you stop giving him the ball. I'm saying if he's taking 25 shots to score 24 points, maybe he's taking too many shots, which makes little sense when there are other options.

It's so tough to make adjustments without watching the games live. You could have Boland missing everything in the first quarter get hot again only to go cold in the 3rd, then get hot again when it doesn't matter and his FG% doesn't suffer much while also not telling the whole story. That's why I'm saying, if he starts shooting under 50%, set up less shots for him and more for others.

Could also be a problem if we're always playing hyper speed. That means you're playing run and gun so your guards will take more shots. My guess is that Weaver won't be running basket-to-basket too fast hence making it difficult for him to get involved. If this is the case, maybe we need to slow it down to a half court game since we have the bigs for it.

    Getting propositions doe.

So it's not the fact that the lineups wrong it's just the instructions need to be altered

I don't know enough about the players to say definitively, but yes, I think you have the best lineup out there starting. Just the strategy needs more thought. We're on a 4 game skid, time to make and test changes I would think.

Slowing down your pace wouldn't be silly. Weaver is a vgood shooter

The more I think about it, the more this strikes me as the most likely issue, what with the volume of shots we take as a team. We're not getting the best out of our lineup. It also serves to dilute Boland's scoring since he's probably the one running end to end trying to make plays.

Maybe instruct to slow the pace down if Boland isn't having a good time. You wanna get Weaver more involved but also don't wanna lose the advantage you gain by having Boland.

Of course in saying all this I'm ignoring the biggest problem I see... defense.
