?

50m free kick

  1. Keep them exactly the same and have umpires hand them out as they wish

    5.9%
  2. Keep the rule as is, just tell umpires to settle down

    29.4%
  3. bring in a shorter penalty for trivial things, keep the 50 for cuntish behaviour

    23.5%
  4. shorten the 50 to 15-25m for all penalties

    11.8%
  5. whatever skippos thinks

    29.4%

Let's look at the advantages of having a free kick in the back third v middle third v forward third

back third: gain the ball when opposition were in attacking situation, have possession
middle third: potential to be one good kick away from scoring shot
    forward third: shot on goal

now, 50 metres currently, -> means 'takes the ball to'

Back third: -> Middle Third -> Shooting Opportunity -> Certain Goal

can you not see how the 50M from every spot on the ground bar defensive third gives the team a very good offensive shot? It's as if currently it's saying: If you commit a terrible offence in the middle/forward third of the ground, the opposition deserve a shot, if you commit it in the defensive third, you just deserve the ball

I get what you mean about defensive frees being comparable to midfield frees in this system and it isn't right - i agree. the defensive team have allowed the ball to get down there so they shouldn't just be allowed to get it straight out like if it were in the midfield, but the current system just doesn't make sense.

I know I'd be happy to crack a bloke if he pissed me off and give away 50 in the defensive arc, but if it's in the centre or forward arc, fuck no. That's all I'm saying - the punishment is technically the same but the effect is so, so different.

Just don't be silly cunt and give away a free kick and 50 in your defensive half

Something has to be done about that lengths of 50 metre penalties.

Some seem about 35 metres, whereas others are about 65 metres.

another rule they should consider, when a guy takes a mark, why does that team allow for players running through the mark, and not the opposition? if players are running with there opponents, they should be allowed to at least run behind the person on the maek

They are allowed to if the follow an opponent.

If drawing free kicks was punishable, West Coast wouldn't be able to field a fucking 22 by the end of the season.
