That's the point. His ceiling isn't what matters nor is his potential. Right now he's just not that good and Mousey seems to disagree

Hey, I agree, he's not that great yet. My issue is with how you seem to think that he's this horrible player when he's not. He was a regular for a team that should've made a granny and would be in a team that's 5-0. Explain?

    Cop that

Haha we were up by 20 at 3qtr time. Should've been able to finish it off - even if you his deserved to win :p

That's the problem though, I don't really disagree with many others on here regarding footy. Some of the North boys perhaps but often it's them v everyone not just me v them. And perhaps the discussions about age related decline/offense v defense but even then. It's really only you who I regularly quarrel with about ratings of players so yeah, I do think you're biased as you're the only one I walk on eggshells with regarding players and the only one I really fight with to near this extent.

I don't doubt Vardy's potential. He was an excellent pick at 38 or whatever in his draft; I had him top 15-20 iirc and always have had faith. But injuries have really ruined him. I know he was in a premiership contending side and therefore pumping kids with games isn't always the option but Geelong have always still given kids games when they're near ready. I do think Vardy was given games as he was only slightly worse than the other options; the benefits long term outweighed the minor, minor problems with throwing him in. And he probably was a better player when he played a full season than he is now with so many introductions. Perhaps he will improve once he gets some consistent time non-injured and some games. But yeah, do you really think Vardy's good enough to be a 1st ruck (right now, not in the future or IF he had no injuries. Right now, I'm saying). Likewise do you think he's good enough to kick 30 goals as a full time forward? As I certainly don't. I rate Geelong's list and I think the CPL database has them top 4 as well, Vardy just isn't part of that.

Daniher shouldn't be dominating to the extent he was. Like Quinten Lynch (who should barely be starter quality on ratings, Daniher scrapes in) shouldn't have either. It's a small sample and he's on the end of plenty of supply from a pretty good midfield/rebound department + every other fwd in the line likes to create space so he was always the prime target. Wasn't injured, never got the #1 defender (the Hoff does) and barely needed to ruck relief so he was always going to have an easier run. Factor in the supply he gets and I'd say he's been above par but not massively above par. Someone like Tory Dickson irl is pretty average but if he was at Hawthorn he'd be a 40+ goal a season forward just looking at his style. CPL aussie rules aims to take the 'situational real life factors' out of players and let their ability do the talking; i.e. roughead in masters' team mighn't be a top 5 cpl key forward. as he probably wouldn't be in a cellar dwelling team with no supply.

Watts has also been good in CPL purely because he's the 4th tall in the forward line and either gets a shitty tall who he's more agile than or more often a small who's losing 4 inches on him which is always going to end badly. If he was the 2nd target/a midfielder in my side he's be far, far worse. It's also pretty hard to assess how melbourne players would go in other situations too. Watts had a great first 3 weeks and a good back end to 2013 so copped a reasonable ratings increase but will definitely be copping a decline based on his last month which has been vfl standard though.

Sylvia's been shit in CPL. He's not in the top 200 players in the db since the mid season update and even before that I'd dropped him for being shit. didn't fit into my system for one but just wasn't very good to begin with. I'm happy to publicise ratings if you worry much, in fact I'd prefer it if I didn't feel people would just select based on them. It's a choice of the lesser of two evils.

I don't think he's awful. I just don't think he's fantastic. I rate him, I hope he comes good; he deserves to after what he's been through but I don't think he's better than average right now.

I think the following should be considered though

    - Geelong haven't really been well off for elite rucks since Ottens. Blake, West, Simpson etc. He hasn't really had much competition. Teams with weaker rucks often tend to play two as well. I don't think he'd have been as likely if Geelong weren't in the bottom 10% for 1st ruck quality
    - Geelong (and other clubs really) have never hesitated to give kids games even when contending. They seem to prefer to play a marginally weaker kid over a senior player if possible
    - A player's ability isn't increased by his team's success. Geelong might have gone 5-0 and been successful every other year but their ruck depth has never been great until this year (and tbf he'd probably play this year as he fits into the structure more than dawson or blicavs do). There's a retard on bigfooty trying to argue that Spangher > Lachie Hansen because Spangher plays in a more successful team. The line doesn't work.

    Spangher>Hansen.

Really rate Burbury though. Really rate him. So many clangers but will be a gun

Tipping Bruce to whip out his dick and start pulling it in the commentators box if Rioli kicks a 5th.

Rioli is actually the most annoying cunt in the AFL. Everytime he has a good game it is a massive wank fest about how good he is but every time he plays poorly everybody wants to call him out as being an inconsistent shit cunt. Shut the fuck up about Rioli.

Not even attacking Cyril. Attacking the people who over hype and under play him.

They're seriously a brilliant team. Nearly every component of a winning team they've got

    - #1 shutdown tagger (Cassisi)
    - #2 tagger who contributes offensively well enough to justify 2 taggers (Kornes)
    - Spearhead (Schulz)
    - Exceptional 2nd KPF (Westhoff)
    - Awesome small forward/s (Wingard, Monfries, Gray... even White)
    - Forwards who are great up the ground (Wingard, Schulz, Gray, Monfries, White, Westhoff)
    - Solid 2nd KPD (Trengove)
    - 3rd tall defender who can contribute in any needed role (Hombsch - can play small/tall and rebound)
    - Elite lockdown defender (Jonas)
    - Ruckman who offers something around the ground (Lobbe - pressure)
    - Squad wide discipline

Only things I really think they lack are perhaps a better 1st KPD (Carlile) and a little more rebound out of defense with Hartlett in the middle. Pittard is okay but doesn't find enough of the pill and Broadbent gets it but doesn't use it tremendously.

With the addition of Polec their midfield is so, so complete. Perfect mixture of inside, outside, balanced, physical, soft, skilled by foot, skilled by hand, speed and endurance - everything. On individual ability Ebert/Boak/Hartlett/Polec/Kornes/Wines isn't a top midfield group, probably 3rd-5th but in terms of cohesion it just works so well together. Polec absolutely completes it, I reckon he's literally the most versatile midfielder at the club or bordering on it now that he has a little bit more pace.

    Oh fuck

I think Mousey slightly over-rates Vardy due to his potential, but I think he'll be a very good player if he can improve his ruck or forward output by 15%.

  19. Skippos SM Morgan

Yep, exactly this. Needs to become more of a batting or bowling allrounder :p

    Its AFL, not cricket fyi
