The main forum is what's causing the problems really. Hosts don't tend to like vBulletin, so I've found. The host I've found specialises in it though and has basically just given this forum the thumbs up. We'll get the whole lot for US$25 a month, which is relatively expensive as far as shared hosting goes, but the whole service looks amazing so I definitely think it's worth it. I think we'd get booted off most other shared plans anyway and this will be cheaper than a decent VPS.
Great news then. At least it should hopefully reduce the downtime if you go ahead with them if what they believe is true.
Yeah, they seem pretty confident about the forum. If it actually is the stats site causing the problem, which is unlikely really, we can look into it and see why; they've even offered to help on that front.
Nah, lol. I just signed up to the current hosts because a) I needed a quick fix to get the site back up after Merkgate b) They didn't suspend upon high CPU usage; they just took you down for five minutes (until now, but it's been almost a year of us killing their server, so it's fair really) c) They were cheap I never actually asked them anything, I just read their ToS and signed up. I emailed this new host and had a chat with one of their employees. The current host was surprisingly awesome up until this point, tbh. This service just isn't really made for vBulletin.
The new host has that installed automatically. Makes sense given they specialise in vBulletin forums.
Some good as news. Will you do a direct transfer from here to there or will there be a downtime of a few days while it all goes through ?
Depends. Certainly won't be "a few days" though unless something goes horribly wrong. The good thing is we still have this host until they decide enough is enough, which means you can keep posting here until I get it set it properly over there. The last thing I'll do is the database transfer. You should be posting on the new server by tomorrow.
So a coupla hours (which I'd assume could be tonight) you're saying, or a bit longer? Gun that we didn't miss out on a simming day too.
Just a question, I went to search something (my posts) and it came up with 20 results, when it's normally 500, is that part of the limiting?
There's no way in hell it's the stats sites, it uses so much less SQL on each page than loading a thread on here... Hell posting takes more SQL queries now than adding a match I think.
