Boob hate to break it to ya, but No.8s generally don't dominate the games with the ball in hand. You leave that to the Backs who actually know how to run with the ball.
We lost cos our backs didn't get the ball enough I think since we gave away way too many penalties and with that any territory we'd gained upfield with the Forwards, when we did we looked decent. Shame really, forwards laid the platform then someone gave a way a silly penalty.
if your backs arent getting the ball enough that is a problem with either the scrum half or no8 imo, they will touch the ball from the base of the scrimmage and will be the key distributers, (although a lack of discipline wont help)
