Hi guys am new here and am nominating for the draft at seasons end and am sure there's some of you on here who know a bit about the draft so I was just wondering if maybe one or two of you who enjoy this sort of thing were working on a phantom/mock draft of the first round or so? Don't want to reveal who I am so as not to influence anyone but yeah, if not that's fine was just curious.
yeah. i've got you as pick no. 1 dude. Good luck! just fwiw, I actually got drafted 2 years ago. won't revela my name obviosuly
I'll do one now champ. Great to see you on here. If you're from South Australia, I'll overrate you. If not, I won't
I've probably forgotten some as this is off the top of my head without consulting my notes and I'm tired. Feel free to ask for any clarification/reasoning though! This is more of a power ranking than a mock draft as I'm not considering team needs/likely picks. 1. Jack Martin. Daylight next 2. James Aish 3. Tom Boyd 4. Matthew Scharenberg 5. Jesse Hogan 6. Jack Billings 7. Ben Lennon 8. Dayle Garlett 9. Marcus Bontempelli 10. Josh Kelly 11. Luke McDonald 12. Dom Sheed 13. Luke Dunstan 14. Nathan Freeman 15. Dwayne Wilson 16. Kade Kolodjashnij 17. Darcy Gardner (depends on team needs, though) 18. Billy Hartung 19. Darcy Hourigan 20. Matthew Crouch (I seem to rate him less than most) 21. Lewis Taylor (see above) 22. Mitch Harvey 23. Trent Dumont (he's the vlastuin of this year's crop. He'll go on to have a very servicable career) 24. Blake Acres 25. Jonathon Marsh 26. Isaiah Miller 27. Christian Salem
They're part of the draft class and part of the age group so I've chosen to. It really doesn't matter though
It's worth noting that up until two months ago virtually every 'expert' had Aish above Boyd. Aish was a lock for the #1 pick from when he got u/16 champs player of the tournament 3 years ago until about 2 months ago. Best 16 year old since Tom Swift (I know, great person to live up to) and was looking like a glorified Lachie Whitfield up until he was injured. I'm aware most people consider Boyd the pick of the draft but it's just worth noting that that 'love' of Boyd is based off a small sample of champs games mainly. And I'll personally guarantee you that had Aish not been injured and played through injury he'd have been battling/ahead of Boyd for that slot. Most inconvenient injury. There's still a good amount of pundits on Bigfooty who rate him above Boyd. Only three blokes on bigfooty who post in the draft board who actually know their stuff though (Chris25, Snoop Dog and Knightmare iirc) and of the two who have posted mocks one has Aish above and the other Boyd, I think. Obviously there's a bit of victorian press bias and I'd ignore everything a HUN/Age/AFL.com writer writes aside from Quayle as they're clueless (there's no draft coverage here) but the gap between the two certainly isn't as big as most people think. Also worth remembering that Aish is a super bottom ager. Still only 17 and not 18 until November. Recruiters love bottom agers. You don't average 18 touches a game as a 16 year old in the SANFL if you're not much chop. Had a poor year this year due to injury but I definitely rate him as the best player in the crop. Key forwards naturally are hit and miss.
AWTA. Quayle is probably the best footy writer out these days. She's absolutely brilliant. Makes me take women's opinions more seriously.
Certainly do. It's a sign of insecurity if a club wouldn't back their program to reform such a talent.
