The more I think about the Inglis move to five-eighth the more I don't mind it. It's not something I'd really considered before but I think it makes sense. As I've said in other threads, Inglis is reminding me a lot of a late-career Hodges these days. His knee issues and I suppose general ageing have made him a lot less agile, and this means he struggles with the load of playing both edges of the field when he plays fullback. His involvement is still high at the back but he's not always in the right position to pick his moments properly, and when he does he often burns them with a yardage carry anyway because he's too spent to put on anything more interesting from that point. The fact that he's still skillful and extremely strong in the upper body means he's still an excellent centre, as late-career Hodges was, and should see out the remainder of his rep career in that position. It's just a bit of a waste at club level though, particularly at a club like Souths will a paucity of attacking backline options. I think playing him as a running five-eighth gives the best of both worlds in a way, though. He can still largely stick to one side of the field as he could playing centre, but with the involvement of a fullback. It puts a lot of pressure on Reynolds but if Reynolds can shoulder the load of the organising then this might actually be the best use of Inglis for Souths.
Yeah the fact that Keary is a better half than Johnston is a fullback is the biggest drawback but looking at it purely from the perspective of how to get the most out of the player Inglis has become I think it probably does make the most sense.
Have been talking about shifting Gi to 6 for a while, wouldn't mind seeing Keary go to fullback instead of AJ though.
Gun offload by Ma'u. And Voss needs to cease on Jennings' pass, was a classic example of a pass appearing forward when passed backwards.
I think it will reap the real rewards when Sutton returns. They will have two options in and around 2nd reciever that will attract numbers in defence and be genuine threats. I haven't seen enough of Johnston at fullback to have an opinion of him there, though I've seen 2 polarising plays by him so far. Keary is poo if you ask me.
Only a minor thing but fucking hell I hate it when commentators put on the kiwi accent to pronounce players last names. Drives me fucking mad.
Cross field kick to Semi and he easily out jumps Oldfield. They then never go back there again for the rest of the game.
