The game is boring irl only because it takes too much time setting up and counting money and all that shit. It's very fast online, and that's the beauty.
Monopoly is a really crap board game in terms of the mechanics. There's basically no skill or strategy involved at all. May as well just flip coins for two hours.
I think it depends on what rules you use. I've never seen it played with the exact same rules in any two places. The official rules are pretty good.
The official rules make the best game, and I'm not saying that I don't enjoy playing it, but it's just not very good.
It has basically no strategy compared to the vast majority of board games. Anyone person who plays a lot of board games knows that monopoly is a pretty poor game in truth, but that hasn't stopped it from being popular.
It's not so much the lack of strategy that makes it a poor game, there are plenty of games like that, the problem is that everyone starts off slowly diverging and the gaps only get bigger, until there's nothing to do but for the winning player to celebrate their slow death grip on the game for 50 turns. Contrast with something like Settlers of Catan or Cleudo where there's a winner after at least some kind of race to the finish.
When player 1 is ahead, the other three players collude and trade in such a way so that player 1 is disadvantaged. That is one type of strategy in this game. Moreover, this online version doesn't run for 50 turns...35 only
