Apparently David Gower signed with Parramatta.

    Lord Gahhhhh.

But yeah he did. Will probably be used as a lock forward.

  4. Henry Marshall H Marshall

  5. Magic AJ Parker

Hoffmans pretty much a done deal to the dogs.

  6. morgieb MC Burridge

Apparently Ben Jones signed with Parra.

It's interesting how both the Broncos and the Bulldogs fans pretty much think that they are the one who got the better part of the deal (well, obviously the Broncs would prefer not to lose Hoffman, but just looking at it as a straight exchange).

Am I wrong here, or is Barba just objectively the better option on paper?

Different styles of fullback I guess. Barba is def the better option because neither the Dogs or Broncos have real dominant half pairings. Although I think he wasn't anywhere near as effective this year because teams were paying closer attention to him and pressuring him more. Obviously he had a tonne of off field issues as well though. He's definitely a better second man option than Hoff but not as effective on kick returns or defensively.

Pretty much what Pretz said. I think Broncos will be a real chance again if they get Milford too.

Hunt has all the perfect pieces around him to shine. He'd have Milford to create to an extent for outside players. Barba and hopefully a fit hodges and reed down each edge. not including back row primary front options. I think he could deliver, if he does and Hodges and Hannant especially remain fit they should finish top 4-6 imo next season.

I thought the Broncos were trying to force him to stay.

Maybe it means Milford is pretty much confirmed. If he weren't coming, you'd think Hoffman would end up playing at fullback.

They are saying they are freeing money up for Smith, but that's a 2015 signing.

  13. Magic AJ Parker

I say pretty much because the Broncos still need to formally release him even though his manager got a verbal agreement last week. Bulldogs wanted Locke but he'll stay at the Warriors next year. Bit of a double whammy for the Broncos, Hoffman was originally offered up as compensation for Barba but the Bulldogs got cash instead because Hoffman supposedly wasn't interested and now he's going to leave anyway.

    6. Locke
    14. Leuluia

    ??? Must be.

  15. Colesy BL Hornby

    Leuluia would play 9 surely?

But will he be at the Dogs next season? He is off contract in 2015, which is when the Broncos want the cash for Smith.

It doesn't make sense to let him go before then. The less time Maranta and Kahu spend in NRL, the better for us.

Friend > Leuluia at 9 tbh.

Looking at their squad, if I was the coach, I'd start the season with Locke at 6, and play him and Johnson as a traditional 6 and 7 (which is more or less how Johnson and Leuluia have played over the past few seasons, with Johnson roaming from side to side and Leuluia bing a link on the left). With Tomkins at 1, Friend at 9 and Leuluia on the bench.

If that fails, they can bring Leuluia in at 6, and because I don't really rate Locke on the wing, I'd use him in an impact role from the bench.

They also bought Townsend, and Mateo can play 6 if they get desperate enough.

Milford is more or less an unknown at 6 though. I'm also not confident at all in his ballplaying ability. Barba may well be a better option to play there than him, however he'd be just as much of a liability as Prince was at times in our defensive line.

The biggest thing I am keen to see is Hunt having players who will support him and sniff out the ball. Late last season Hunt created many chances with chips, grubbers and line breaks, yet no-one was within cooee of him when he was looking for support. This is the biggest reason why I am glad Hoffman is gone from the back. As a support player, he just lacks the footy nous to be in the right place at the right time. Barba and Milford however, have shown they know where to be and when to support a ballplayer.

If he does indeed go to the Dogs, there will be a noticeable difference in the level of support-play they will get from the back.

Why can no one spell Leuluai?

Yeah. Possible that Locke will just move to wing though, which would be dire.

I watched Locke really closely after I heard the Warriors were signing Tomkins and even though his form in general was down, he showed the class to play as a genuine 6 IMO (an idea which I mocked at the time :p).
