Always got the feeling he was one of those players who was in it purely for the career. Will probably try and make a comeback in a few years time.

 

Sure it would, secondary only to money I'd say not having passion for your job would be the biggest reason why people quit their job.

 

Money for most people is a motivator only for as long as people have physiological and safety needs, i.e water, food, shelter & security.

Something I'd assume a first grader of 5 years at the top level would have quite comfortably by now.

I said most people, there's definitely a fair amount of people who are motivated purely by money. Given how often you bring up the size of your pay packet I'd say you probably fall into that group.

A rugby league player, like anyone, is not going stop being motivated by money, just because they can eat, drink and sleep somewhere safely.

If you want to quote Maslow's Hierarchy of needs then don't contradict it in the next sentence. Maslow's theory is once someone's physical & safety needs are satisfied they seek belongingness, self-actualization and esteem with money becoming the lesser motivating factor.

I've never really agreed with Maslow's hierarchy for a number of reasons but it backs my argument far more than it does yours, stupid to bring it up.
