The best wingers England have had in a while but I'd still definitely have Nightingale, Boyd, Tate, Inu etc ahead of them anyway. It's one of those things though; I'm sure that if this team was playing games every week against similar theoretical opposition, someone like Brett Stewart would be converted into a full-time winger and do an excellent job of it. Given he's never really played there though you can't really pick him for a one-off or none-off game.

I realise Inu is a pretty controversial player to rate given he has a history of inconsistency, brain snaps and general looseness but I think he really turned a corner last year. Call it a hunch I guess. Realistically wouldn't pick him here but I thought he was worth a mention.

I think Melbourne would have gone pretty much the same. Cronk has been flattered greatly by playing in really strong, successful, well-organised Melbourne and Queensland teams but I still think he is slightly ahead of Carney.

Even considering the shit backline Carney had to work with last year, I don't think his play through 2012 was as good as it could have been. I think he is still some way off his best.

I find Inu a strange choice. I've always pegged him as a centre and the only real reason I'd keep him on the wing is that he couldn't tackle a beach ball.

Very surprised at the number of mentions of Nightingale ahead of Tate and Boyd.

SeGAYaro? Might as well just go with Isaac Luke or something then.

    Segayaro can tackle.

    CricSim has always loved Nightingale.

    Tate isn't a winger.

He has so many qualities I look for in a winger. Great aerial ability both in terms of athletiscm and safe hands. He's a strong defender, makes good decisions in defence and is positionally sound. He's not incredibly quick or strong but he's adequately blessed in those departments. Gun dummy half runner out of his own end too for good measure.

 fuck off. He was one of the best players during the 2012 Origin series and has put in many good performances for Queensland and Australia over the years, often on the wing. Just because he is a better centre doesn't mean he isn't also a winger.

If people are naming Inglis in the centres then there is no good reason not to consider Tate on the wing.

I think Nightingale can sometimes be a bit suspect under the high ball in defence. He spills a few when he is forced to compete in the air, as you'd expect for a winger who isn't terribly big. Everything else is true though.

Exactly it annoys me that we let him go while Luke is given wristies by commentators week in week out. I love his attacking aspects but every fucking week i know that Issac Luke is good for a. 2/3 errors or penalties or crucial missed tackles leading to an opposition try.

His defence is absurdly overrated because he can throw in a couple of flashy hard hits/tackles and don't get me wrong I love the aggression but it shouldn't give h a free pass to be lazy in defence around the ruck, take a big man 1 on 1 high and be completely useless as often as he is.

Segayaro is just as dynamic out of dummy half and generally in attack but his defence and temperament is much better imo.

Was a big factor in me naming him in my side. He was fucking brilliant.

Tate has always played well in Origin. The phrases "made for Origin" or "Origin player" are tiresome cliches but they actually apply to Tate imo. He is one of those players who manages to fit in really well at representative level and excels more than many guys who outplay him in the NRL.

    How's Roby been going?

Went Farah over him purely for how good he's been playing the past 12 months and not having seen Roby play in a while.
