Week 2 Cyclones vs Vipers Crusaders vs Allstars Gamblers vs Sticky Wickets Pumas vs Ravens 1. JE McGrath 100(120) 6x4, 2x6 With the only ton for this round of the Horrigan Cup, McGrath was hardly going to miss out the team of the week. Chasing 258 against the Cyclones, McGrath set up the game for an adrenaline filled finish that eventually ended in a tie. While he will no doubt be disappointed that he fell just short of guiding the Vipers to victory, his team mates are sure to be appreciative of his efforts in single handedly bringing them close to the target. 2. AJ O'Neill 70(72) 6x4, 2x6 Earlier on in the same match, a strong opening stand of 118 between O'Neill and AM Farhat allowed the Cyclones to get off to a solid start from which the rest of the batsmen were able to free their arms and get the Clones to a respectable total. Scoring at nearly a run a ball, O'Neill's innings of 70 that included 6 boundaries and 2 sixes was the more dominating knock from the two openers, the main reason for his inclusion over Farhat, who scored 79 from 127. 3. SP Phlegm 77(107) 8x4, 1x6 Phlegm showed why he was one of the more valuable members of the Ravens LO outfit with this knock, keeping his composure and trying to build partnerships as wickets fell all around him. Chasing a par total of 246 set by the Pumas, Phlegm walked in with the score at 19 after 7 overs of tight bowling from SA Flack and AJ Izett. 38 overs later, after having seen 6 of his fellow batsmen fail to support him, he finally fell while trying to keep up with the required run rate. As if to prove a point that he was the backbone of the chase, Flack cleaned up the remainder of the tail with a hattrick to end a poor game for the Ravens. 4. SA Flack 51(61) 4x4, 0x6 & 5-37 The difference between the two sides, Flack first started off his game by helping the Pumas to recover from a sluggish start in a steady partnership with JA Chewie. The pair, along with a few lower order cameos allowed the Pumas to post a decent total of 246. While his batting was impressive, it was Flack's bowling that really won the Pumas the game. Opening the bowling, he struck early on, removing the dangerous RG Cribb for just 15 during a tight spell. He was brought back later on and killed any hopes the Ravens still had of a comeback with four wickets that included a hattrick to wrap things up. 5. TJ Clough 85(102) 7x4, 1x6 With the only substantial score from the Crusaders this week, Clough's 85 was vital to his team crossing the 200 mark and posting a modest total of 212. Regardless of the total, the knock was certainly the best that both sides could come up with, even moreso because it came against a strong Allstars bowling attack. Unfortunately for him, his teammates' poor batting performances let them down, in a match where they nearly caused an upset as they fought hard to defend their small total. 6. JA Chewie 67(81) 6x4 1x6 & 2-25 The run machine, unsatisfied with his sub 50 LA average due to the previous game, churned out his first half century for the Pumas this season in a partnership with SA Flack that enabled them to set a target of 246 for the Ravens. He worked hard to keep his bowling average below 10 for the week as well, picking up the wickets of MJ Deane and SSD Dong in quick succession. WAC. 7. LA Pilgrim 67(91) 7x4, 2x6 8. BMT Con 47(52) 5x4, 0x6 Coming in with the score at 94-4 and 114-5 respectively, the pair of Pilgrim and Con ensured no further mishaps occurred for the Stickies, guiding them to what turned out to be a comfortable victory over the Gamblers. The fact that they both kept their cool and remained not out at the end has earned them a spot each in the team of the week. 9. M Faithful 20(23) 3x4 & 4-59 The large number of good performances from the fast bowlers this week made it tough to select a pair that justified their selection over the others. Faithful's batting helped edge out the competition, but his bowling performance was no doubt the main factor in his selection. Starting off with a tight spell against the Pumas, Faithful struck twice early on, reducing the Pumas to 27-2. While he did receive some stick at the death, he came back with a further two wickets to end up with his best bowling figures to date. His knock of 20 also allowed the Ravens to have a glimpse of hope, when he got a partnership with Phlegm going. Despite being unable to carry on, it shows how much of an asset he can be batting at 9, giving great batting depth to the side. 10. GR Smith DNB, 5-54 The third opening bowler in this weeks lineup, Fiery didn't have the best of starts, as Cyclones openers AM Farhat and AJ O'Neill saw him off with relative ease. What he has been selected for however, is his great bowling towards the death, which saw him pick up all five of his wickets within the last 5 overs of the innings. This also included an excellent 45th over where we removed S Masters and CJ Laing, who were both looking extremely dangerous. He saved his best for the last over however, where he cleaned up the Cyclones tail in the space of four deliveries, just missing out on a hattrick and giving away just the two runs. 11. HG Emm DNB, 2-29 With very few spinners standing out in this week due to impressive performances from opening bowlers, Emm's 10 overs that went for just 29 runs including the crucial top order wickets of E Ames and M Perry secured him the all important job of bowling in the middle overs for this weeks TOTW. \0 el\ '/\ Honourable mentions: AM Farhat 79(127) & 2-42 While his bowling may have been useful to the side, his batting was too slow, scoring at just a shade over 60. It forced the rest of the batsmen to accelerate as soon as they stepped in without having a chance to settle in. Opening bowlers MJ Edwards 3-43 After a good opening spell which included 2 top order wickets, the highlight of Edwards performance was his last over. With the scores level, Edwards got a wicket off the final delivery of the match to seal a memorable tie. HT Davis 3-46 AD Funkotron 3-47 JH Ridd 3-43 1. JE McGrath 2. AJ O'Neill 3. SP Phlegm 4. SA Flack 5. TJ Clough 6. JA Chewie 7. LA Pilgrim 8. BMT Con 9. M Faithful 10. GR Smith 11. HG Emm Please vote for your player of the round from the aforementioned XI. If you feel anyone has been unfairly missed out, don't hesitate to mention it, I may have looked over the performance by accident.[/QUOTE]
True. Have a look at the scorecards, there's not much to play with in terms of middle over bowlers tbh.
That's going to happen a lot though; you just have to pick the best of them. It's a tough job to look particularly good at with the way the sim works.
I'd get Farhat in then. Emm, Chewie and Farhat can bowl in the middle overs while MF and Flack open the bowling. Fiery first change and a longish spell at the death.
Nah don't change the team. You've posted it up and it's there for discussion; not to be perfected and officially submitted to the archives. I definitely would've picked Farhat or Smith but it wasn't an oversight or anything; you just disagreed.
