With the first ever offseason sevens sim competition here are some unofficial predictions I've put together. For Pool A.... Jamesaican Jerks Definitely a team that will show there worth whilst in attack, lacking a bit of defence but with ball in hand I'm sure they'll make up for it. Players to watch: Schaw, James, Denton Burdens: Ikram, Burridge If the lower rated players can perform this team could be very dangerous. Pool prediction (A): 1st Royal O'Neill Spa This team is very balanced. With defence only slightly better than attack whether they have ball in hand or the opposition does, this team will be very dangerous. They'll be hard to get through and will most likely score a lot of points against weaker defensive teams through their backs. Players to watch: Blunder, Hutchinson Burdens: Devonshire, Masters Pool Prediction (A): 2nd Morgan Venereal Disease Clinic This team would have to be one of the most balanced teams in terms of attack and defence. However being balanced comes at a cost. Whether being balanced will help this team will really depend on who they're playing and who decides to turn up and play. Player to watch: Weaver Burdens: BJ Taylor, Phlegm, Jackson Pool Prediction (A): 3rd Jacobs Joint This team is all about attack, with ball in hand Jacobs Joint should score a lot of points however if they struggle to get the ball they may find themselves defeated and defeated convincingly. Players to watch: Verigotta, Jacobs Burdens: Man, Farhat Pool prediction (A): 4th
For Pool B..... Morris Minor This team is very strong in both attack and defence. They're definitely better defensively but their attack cannot be overlooked by the opposition. Players to watch: McDougal, Morris, Logan Burdens: Witters, Martyn Pool prediction (B): 1st Manera Mount(ees) This team is pretty strong offensively, not so strong on attack but given the opportunity I'm sure they'll convert. I suspect this team being very cautious and reading the game quite well. Players to watch: Farnsworth, Manera, Laing (Zakaron) Burdens: Marshall, Vago Pool prediction (B): 2nd Read Light District This team is quite balanced in terms of attack and defence however they're quite a bit weaker on paper than some other teams. However the balance this team has could become as a threat to others, you've been warned. Player to watch: D Taylor Burdens: Diggler, Downpipes Pool prediction (B): 3rd Saint Etienne I'm expecting this team to struggle. Offensively they're alright but their defence is lacking. If they can secure ball this team will be able to score points and hopefully win. Players to watch: Cambridge, Son Burdens: O'Driscoll, Gee, King Pool prediction (B): 4th
For Pool C..... lAmes lAnes This team is strong, very strong. The opposition needs to be aware that if this team gets going we could have a cricket score (a Black Caps one at least) on the cards. This team has the makings to be the best offensively. Their defence is all up there. You've all been warned. Players to watch: Ames, Graham, Chung Burdens: Harding, Tait Pool prediction (C): 1st Laing Home Counties This team is also very strong in attack, in some ways they're stronger in attack than lAmes lAnes. However their defence is lacking and that could be costly when on defence. No doubt with ball in hand they'll punish the opposition. Players to watch: CJ laing, Golding, Bakkum Burden: Nova Pool prediction (C): 2nd Pilgrim's Progress This team is quite similar to Laing Home Counties. They're quite strong in attack but they are lacking a bit in defence. They're not too bad defensively but I wouldn't bank on them stopping Lomu in his tracks. Players to watch: Deane, Herd Burdens: Speirs, Storer Pool prediction (C): 3rd Bots Multi or Hunt and co. No matter what they're called I am in fact predicting this team to come dead last in their pool. Of course I could be completely wrong of course. This team will probably be good in defence but I'm not so sure about on attack. Their attack isn't atrocious but it isn't amazing either. Of course this isn't helped by an extremely tough pool and I think they're getting hard done by. Players to watch: Davis, Hunt Burdens: Darts, Scoble Pool prediction (C): 4th
Excellent, looks like I will have to keep an eye on this. It must be asked though, isn't that fairly early for a prop to be drafted in a sevens tournament ?
Go Bots Multi! Predicted last by Rego. Predicted first by Hunt. Pretty certain I support Hunt's view more. We have it in the bag as we don't need to rely on Hunt's place kicking.
