Presidents of the United States - the best group lyrically I have ever heard SHE'S LUMP SHE'S LUMP SHE'S LUMP SHE MIGHT BE DEAD
Dunno about Blur, they seem to be unappreciated now beyond Song 2, but back in the day they seem to have been pretty massive, perhaps beyond what they deserve.
Blur were massive and I think they are still appreciated. I'd argue more for Pulp or Suede. They had some quality albums back in the early 90s (His 'n' Hers, Different Class) (Suede, Dog Man Star) but now they seem largely forgotten.
Pavement? May as well go for Mercury Rev, Grandaddy, Wilco or the Flaming Lips. Yeah, they aren't mainstream but I think they're pretty well appreciated considering the type of music they make. Beck is another one who was massive back in the day but has faded a bit.
Pulp were ****ing terrible but for Common People though Blur may have been huge in Britain but the majority pof their work was vastly unappreciated worldwide outside of the mother land.
Bullshit. Still love Pulp. Jarvis' 'talky' style songs - like Wickerman, Sunrise, FEELING Called Love and more are an acquired taste for sure, but there's classic tunes like Do You Remember the First Time, Babies, Razzamatazz, Pink Glove, Sorted for E's and Wizz and more. The Different Class album was very much of the zeitgeist at the time, but really there's a lot more to them than that. Big fan of Jarvis the showman as well, great to watch live. Suede's Animal Nitrate and The Wild Ones are pretty much the ones tunes of theirs I listen to these days and I was a big fan of theirs back in the day.
Wouldn't disagree with this. Some of their stuff is utter tripe. I think people either love them or loathe them and I think some people massively overrate them and others underrate them. They also put on a good show though.
Remember really looking forward to listening to Different Class when I bought it about 6 years ago. Also remember it being a coaster 3 weeks later.
Haha. Different Class is definitely an overrated album these days. This is Hardcore is a massively underrated album, simply because it didn't have any 'Common People' tunes on it and so the masses detested it.
I'm in between. I think they're ok but they're not this revolutionary bunch of geniuses that only 0.01% of the world can understand. Just because they're different doesn't mean they're brilliant. I've never been to one of their live shows for above reasons but I just can't understand why/how they're so good having seen loads and knowing most people don't know their stuff. And their covers are disgraceful.
