AWTA. Dunno how they could possibly leave him out.

Nah. You'd expect them to each get a turn on the bench during pool play and maybe even just Vito on the bench to give one a full rest during the lesser teams. It's not like these players are playing with little rest days. Each game is like 7 days apart.

Ahh didn't know. Still injuries happen etc. Would rather we had taken Dominic Bird over as well and only two half backs. Kerr Barlow is untested anyway.

Might be a poor attempt to send a message to players of his age thinking of taking overseas contracts.

Are they doing the same thing this weekend where all the big teams play at the weekend and then the smaller teams play during the week?

Terrible idea because then the smaller teams end up playing the big teams with about three days rest.

I vaguely recall reading that they had done away with that imbalance and now big teams might be expected to have short turnarounds too. Can't remember if it was for this World Cup or the next one though.

Vito isn't the reserve lock, Read and Kaino are

8. Rego RS Hutchinson

Each team has a shorter turnaround once I recall, the rest is 7 days-ish apart

ABs for example:

Sun 20th Sept vs Arg
Thurs 24th Sept vs Nam
Fri 2nd Oct vs Geo
Fri 9th Oct vs Ton

So it's not too bad.

9. Rego RS Hutchinson

All capable of covering lock. Vito and Kaino the better options imo.

But why even play him in those 3 Rugby Championship games? He was the best player on the paddock in SA by a country mile. Would have been one of my first picks tbf.

11. Rego RS Hutchinson

Because he could still be called upon in case of injury.....the same applies with Lima. He was never going. He played one game for us - they had no intention of him going unless he was covering an injury. He would have played more if they seriously were considering him. Getting a player like him in the environment was essential in case he's needed.

But you could say the same thing about Naholo or NMS. Piutau definitely outperformed Naholo for the All Blacks this season and maybe Milner-Skudder as well. You guys definitely should have taken Piutau - he gives you cover on both wings, at fullback and maybe even centre for a pool game.

13. Rego RS Hutchinson

Naholo would have played more if it wasn't for his injury you'd have to think. Nehe only got to play the last 2 games due to injury as well so same applies. Piutau playing against Samoa was a given (a lot of players unavailable). I would say that both those players being unavailable for a few of the games, Piutau played when it would have probably been one of the former two.

I'm actually trying to rationalise what Hansen has done because I agree I would have picked Piutau over the still injured Naholo as well. If Naholo had remained fit throughout maybe not. If he gets straight back to the form he's in I have no problems at all.

I don't think Piutau's contract debacle helped his case.

Looks like an experienced set of outside backs compared to what they could have brought. Neither the Jane or Dagg omission surprises me much but I'd have thought they'd want one.

Jane has been injured and is relatively unproven as I think he has only played ITM Cup at best.

Dagg was a bit more of a surprise for me.

Don't you mean inexperienced?

17. Starris ER Starris

Indeed...

I like the relative unknowns from oppositions point of view for both Naholo and NMS... might make them harder to stop.

I made a thread for these moments on CW - based on people saying the opposite of what they mean.

With all the line-up discussion going on in the other thread between Rego and I thought we could do a pick your line-up prediciton for each All Black pool game. Maybe Hurricane and Fiery can join in too.

My pick for Argentina:

1. Woodcock
2. Coles
3. Franks (Owen)
4. Retallick
5. Whitelock
6. Kaino
7. McCaw
8. Read
9. Smith
10. Carter
11. Savea
12. Nonu
13. Smith
14. NMS
15. Smith

16. Mealamu
17. Crockett
18. Faumuina
19. Romano
20. Vito
21. Perenara
22. Barrett
23. SBW

20. Rego RS Hutchinson

Sounds good. I'd assume most of our squads will be similar for this first one:

1. Tony Woodcock
2. Dane Coles
3. Owen Franks
4. Brodie Retallick
5. Sam Whitelock
6. Jerome Kaino
7. Richie McCaw
8. Kieran Read
9. Aaron Smith
10. Dan Carter
11. Julian Savea
12. Ma'a Nonu
13. Conrad Smith
14. Nehe Milner-Skudder
15. Ben Smith

16. Keven Mealamu
17. Wyatt Crockett
18. Ben Franks
19. Luke Romano
20. Liam Messam
21. TJ Perenara
22. Beaudan Barrett
23. Malakai Fekitoa

Most of my differences are personal choice but we all know Hansen loves SBW etc. (he's been so average recently) so Fekitoa over him. Ben Franks over Charlie because I think his fitness could still be questionable and probably better to test it out in the next pool games. I'd personally go with Vito over Messam too (he's been immense) but just have a feeling Hansen will go with Messam.

Let's see how wrong I am with those differences.
