Your top five Premier League strikers

  1. Eds E Ames

Hearing Ray Parlour suggest Michu was the third best striker in the Premier League inspired this thread. Absolute tosh.

    1. Robin van Persie
    2. Luis Suarez
    3. Sergio Aguero
    4. Wayne Rooney
    5. Carlos Tevez

Big gap between the top four and the rest, IMO.

  2. Mariner CL Warrington

    RVP
    Suarez
    Rooney
    Aguero
    Ba

  3. Verigoat S Verigotta

Michu's an AM isn't he whose just played up top when they arn't using Graham?

  4. Mariner CL Warrington

Michu would only be a striker at Barca or in the spanish team.

  5. Eds E Ames

He's been a striker for Swansea this season tbf.

  6. Verigoat S Verigotta

Wouldn't really be one at Barca would he

Messis in the middle of a front 3 and they're not gonna move him outwide to subsidise another player

One of the reasons I always find it odd when i've seen the odd Chicho to Barca rumour

  7. Cevno IV Narang

Michu has played both as AM and Striker this season. Started off as AM behind Graham and then was pushed further ahead.

  8. Droos JP Rhodes

Recon you have them spot on Eds, in the order I would rate them. Are there any official stats on who the current top 5 are?

  9. Mariner CL Warrington

And how would one have stats on how good a striker is may I ask?

  10. mouse MJ Edwards

Really can't argue with your list Eds

  11. Baxter MJ Deane

    Tevez better than Rooney

  12. Teacups CJ Evans

    This season or in general?

  13. Teacups CJ Evans

Aguero and Rooney really unfortunate that they've experienced some injuries this season. Might have hurt their momentum a little bit. Regardless of that, both have been class when playing more often than not. Still can't forget Rooney's performance against Reading - absolutely phenomenal.

RVP and Suarez are both majestic and have been pivotal for their respective clubs this season. RVP gets it by a little bit but Suarez a close second, a really close second - if we are going by this season. Then it's tough to separate Aguero and Rooney. After those 4, it's only really Tevez that has the quality to even come close to matching IMO. Ba and Michu are good players but not even close to those 5. So all-in-all, my list would be closest to Eds'. I just can't really separate Aguero and Rooney.

@Eds how much is your gap between RVP and Suarez? Minimal or a substantial amount?

  14. Baxter MJ Deane

RVP is by far and away the best player in the league it's not even funny.

For me, Rooney is vastly overrated. Pretty much always has been and probably always will be.

  15. Teacups CJ Evans

The concept of someone being "overrated" has also been tricky territory for me. In essence, what people try to say is that player X gets credit that he's not worthy of but that could be purely down to exaggeration from media etc. It doesn't take anything away from the quality of the player. If I'm to put some numbers to it and say Rooney is a 96 and the media rates him as a 99 and Tevez is a 94 and the media gives him a 94 then there might be a psychological effect or some sort of illusion that Tevez > Rooney because Rooney is overrated and Tevez is bang on or maybe even underrated. Perhaps even an underdog story sort of thing. Still though, bare quality considered - Rooney is a better player in this hypothetical example. Worth noting that I'm not trying to factualise a totally hypothetical example.

Reason I've brought it up is because I've been a victim to it myself (not regarding these two players) and I suspect there might be others out there that might find it difficult to navigate those waters. Some people seem to think that just because a player is overrated, it diminishes their quality in some way. Maybe they don't even outright believe it but something in their head makes them believe it and they don't even notice it. Not saying any of this is you Marcuss, ftr. Just something I've noticed.

Okay, I'll stop with the incessant ramblings.

  16. Baxter MJ Deane

No it's possible to be underrated and very poor and overrated but very good.

Rooney's good, don't get me wrong. I just don't think he's as good as Tevez, and to say he's better than him is an overrating of his ability. Rooney's always spoken of as though he's a better player than he actually is IMO

  17. Teacups CJ Evans

This is essentially what I was saying? That Rooney is very good but overrated. I actually agree with you that he's overrated - maybe I should have said that last post.

We just have different opinions on Rooney vs Tevez which is fine.

  18. Verigoat S Verigotta

Not sure how you can get Tevez being better than Rooney

Rooneys better in the link up play and general stuffs, their both on a goal every 2 games but Rooneys got more assists.

Even last season Tevez only got like 4 goals in 13 games

Theres just nothing to suggest Tevez as being a better player other than just thinking one of the two is overrated but the other one can't be

  19. Baxter MJ Deane

They're two different statements and entirely unconnected.

I think Tevez is better than Rooney.

    I think Rooney is overrated.

  20. Baxter MJ Deane

Also, I'm some what reluctant to even consider Tevez's record last year. Season was practically a write off for him.
