It's that time of the year again...

Do you believe English football should have a winter break, like other European countries? Or do you like festive football?

Only advantage to it outside of top 4 is players would be more rested for the National team. but the fixtures would have to be crammed in somehwere and it would mean they et stacked at the end of the season which gives the same advantage.

    Not worth it really

I love festive football, and don't think it should be dropped, however I reckon I think that simply because it's always been there, rather than any other, substantial reason.

Shouldn't this be a part of the English Football thread?

Pretty much every other league in Europe manages it.

It's just strange that we are the only European country not to have a winter break. However, like Logan has said, I also love the festive football. Boxing day, 28th and then just after the new year, it means managers then have to rotate their squad and managers earn their coins at such a vital stage of the season.

I think it's unneeded. Anyway clubs like us sometimes get one anyway with the weather and stuff.

There would be no need to give up the festive feast IMO. Great tradition.

There's no reason they couldn't have a 2-3 week break starting on the 5th. The one thing that would need to change is the scheduling of FA Cup games to midweeks and scrap replays - a team who makes the final loses 5 weekends between January and April.

Only way it will work in any capacity in England will be if they drop number of teams to 18.

It is a great thing to have though, perfect timing for Kaiserslautern for example, 3 losses in a row + many injuries, now get 56 days (including a transfer window) till next game.

One of the big pluses of a winter break IMO, many teams in Germany in similar situations.

Dropping the number of teams in the Prem to 18 would be the shittest thing in the world

    Festive football is great.

Actually any sport around this time of the year is great IMO, although our weather might help with the enjoyment.

I think getting rid of it would be pointless, the fixtures would still stack up somewhere, besides finding out the boxing day fixture is one of the simple pleasures involved with being an English football fan, you look at opening game, first home/away game, derby games, boxing day and final day of the season!

Besides the amount these people get paid, they should have to play all year round, have 5 weeks paid holiday like the rest of us!

Shamefully we've played Lincoln on boxing day and new year's day for the past two years now. Still nice to have a derby game on boxing day, but it's getting a little repetitive.
